You can't look at the menu without being heckled by the staff trying to coax you inside. Not atypical for Crete but we've come to realise that it's a red flag when you encounter this on the island.
Still, we gave it a chance. My partner ordered moussaka which he told me had no taste. I ordered pizza which cost the same price as most other places in Crete. Here's what I got:
frozen pizza -a congealed blob of cheese that tasted of nothing and strangely enough, had no sense of texture tomato slices on top that were definitely not fresh a hard base that could chip a tooth
Each bite leached the moisture from my mouth. After we ate what we could, I started to feel sick and then the server placed a questionable dessert in front of us. Pretty certain that I was going to be sick, I left it there. The owner came over, telling us to 'eat' and that was his 'speciality'. If that's the speciality then I wouldn't order a dessert if I were you.
This meal is easily one of the worst three meals I've eaten in my life and easily the worst in the last two years.
If you want some really good food, there are amazing restaurants up the hill in Koutouloufari like Laini (Greek tapas) and Atrium (delicious Greek/European/Mediterranean fate). I can't remember the names of the others but there are plenty of choices. If you want pizza, check out Peach Pit. Unlike Sweet Home, you will not regret it and it's cheaper and family-friendly.
Eat ANYWHERE else. The food here tastes of nothing and there's clearly no goodness in it. I'd rather eat porridge oats and...
Read moreI had the absolute pleasure of being served by Alexis, and I can honestly say he’s one of the best waiters I’ve ever met. From the moment we sat down, Alexis made us feel welcomed and taken care of. He was attentive without ever being overbearing, and he anticipated our needs before we even had to ask.
What really stood out was his professionalism combined with a warm, genuine personality. He had great knowledge of the menu, gave spot-on recommendations, and made sure everything came out perfectly. Even when the restaurant got busy, Alexis never missed a beat—he kept his smile, checked in at the right times, and made us feel like valued guests.
If you’re lucky enough to have Alexis as your waiter, you’re guaranteed a great experience. Service like his is rare, and it truly made our visit memorable....
Read moreArrived in Crete late at night and decided to do a 30 second walk from hotel to sweet home. Little did we know we would end up in here twice a day for a week. The food is great and coming from a picky eater that is a compliment. The pizza was the best we have tried here along with the amazing waffles. The menu has a wide range of breakfast, lunch and dinner with other drinks and puddings. The service is amazing, we found it to be really quick and pleasant. We was served all week by stavros, kostos, alexis, vaggelis and Angela who were all lovely and never failed to make us laugh. If could pick the restaurant and take it back home with me I would as England doesn’t offer this service. I want to thank everyone at sweet home for making the holiday that...
