My friend and I were vacationing in Crete and she wanted to go to a steak restaurant for her birthday. She liked the menu at WoW, but didnāt look at prices or location. The restaurant was located within a resort, and definitely gave off a fine dining atmosphere. The view was great as well as the service, but the food was terrible. Even the appetizer of croquettes that came out, ācompliments of the chef,ā wasnāt good. I couldnāt eat more than a few bites of anything. My friend ordered a steak (which she complained about not being great). Altogether, we ordered two appetizers (which served as my meal since Iām vegetarian) and a steak, which came with a side of potatoes. I had two glasses of wine and she had one or two drinks.
I didnāt check the bill, unfortunately, and it wasnāt until days later that I realized I had a $300 charge on my card. I thought there mustāve been some mistake, so I contacted the restaurant, requesting an itemized receipt. When they sent the receipt, I saw that we were charged for the ācomplimentaryā appetizer (which we didnāt order) as well as a side item we didnāt order⦠the steak alone was close to $100. The side of potatoes we thought came with the steak was another ā¬18.
I let the manager know that it was my fault for not checking the bill, but requested that he refund the two items that we didnāt order. He refused. Apparently, ācompliments of the chefā means you receive something that you didnāt order, didnāt enjoy, and still have to pay for. Regarding the other item that we did not order, he said that it ācame with the meal.ā Thatās just bad business in general and poor customer service.
Donāt waste your time or your money. There are so many other amazing restaurants in the area that are delicious and wonāt leave a giant dent in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreā¬100 per head. This was without starter. But with wine and a side and desert each. There isn't much special to justify its price.
This is a place that tries to impress. It doesn't. So it ups prices so you can impress your better half by ordering ā¬100 steak. Witnessed couple desperate punters going through this. Ok.
Steak and the zucchini side were good. Other plates were not. Sorry simply not good enough.
The main gripe is that we phoned ahead because this was our daughter's birthday and we wanted fries. These are not on the menu but we were told that of course this was not a problem. However clearly it was. Much discussion was on this during ordering as it was a deal breaker. They agreed but then provided 2 bowls of Lays chips one of which was stale and chewy. Seriously this is part of a 5* hotel. Just lazy when you're paying this sort of money and considering the discussion ahead of the booking and during ordering it was dishonest.
We'll move on from the birthday.
Clearly people have the money to spend at this place. Don't get me wrong it's a nice location and we had a nice time. But can't look past the fact I've been more impressed at places 1/4 of the price.
Have to agree with all other reviews that the waiting staff were lovely. The bottom score is because phoning ahead made zero difference and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food here was phenomenal, the nicest tasting meal we had all holiday, in a really nice location. Some aspects of the service left room for improvement - my wife's starter was beef tartare which has a little theatrical preparation at the table, but my wife was in the bathroom when the starters came out. I asked if we could wait until she was back and was told it couldn't wait, or we could send the food back to the kitchen. I assume it was a food safety thing with the raw beef but I don't think the starters should have been brought out with one person not seated. Our glasses weren't always kept topped up then I got a bottle of wine taken out of my hand when I went to top it up myself, which I thought was a bit much. Felt like I was being told off. No cutlery for our main course as it was cleared away after starters, so we had to ask for more. The red wine was served chilled, we did question that and were told it was stored at 13-14C in the warmer months. Makes sense for longer term storage (I guess, not an expert) but I don't think it should be served so cold. These are all fairly minor quibbles, but for the price you would expect the service to...
