Where do I begin? This hotel was so much more than we had expected. Myself and my partner believe this was because of 3 main things... The AMAZING, PROFESSIONAL, EXCELLENT staff, the AWESOME food and the place itself.|From the moment we arrived, we were greeted as if we were VIPs, billionaires or royalty! At first, we were worried they were expecting tips, because we didn't bring much money, but these concerns were quickly washed away! If we had the money, they TOTALLY DESERVE good tips because their service really was IMPECCABLE!! We tried to give a few out on our final day with what money we had left, but we wished we could have given more. ||From the reception, to the cab-car drivers, the waiters and waitresses, pool/beach staff, the chefs, the food and beverage manager, the front office/GR Manager, the housekeeping and literally practically EVERYONE at Nana Princess made our holiday absolutely UNFORGETTABLE! ||We arrived at 1am after a long journey and when we entered Nana Princess, we just melted into a bowl of bliss and tranquility.||We were offered the most refreshing drink I've ever tasted while they gathered a quick form to sign, then they whisked us off to our beautiful Junior suite via cab car/buggy. |Thankfully we were able to order 24hr room service for a bite to eat and we quickly dipped into our complimentary wine sat on the coffee table on our arrival to the room.|I was blown away by the cleanliness and elegance of our suite and loved that you could see out of the shower to the sea! If you wanted some privacy you could close the blind. We also had a wonderfully large bath, which I wasn't even expecting! |As it was dark, we couldn't fully appreciate the outdoor space until the morning but OH MY GOD, it was out of this world. We admired our terrace with a private pool and privacy at our room was better than some other suites. We were located in the centre of tier 5 and loved it!||Because we arrived late, the staff who greeted us at reception offered a tour in the morning and explanation of how to use certain things if we wanted to. They explained that we had use of the Nana Golden beach site next door to our hotel as well, if we chose to use it. This was more family friendly and compact. However, don't let this put you off Nana Princess if you have children, because the staff are just incredible with kids as we witnessed many times. We saw a few couples with babies enjoying the pool and restaurants. My only issue one time was a child on his ipad which was making annoying sounds in my ear every few seconds when my partner and I were trying to enjoy a final romantic meal. My suggestion would be that they could have a headphones rule in the restaurants or no ipad policy. We thankfully were moved and it was no trouble at all for the staff. ||I would say that evening entertainment might be more suited at the Nana golden beach for its variety, though we decided to stay on our terrace, play cards and drink our duty free instead of venturing there in the evening. To be completely transparent I think Nana Princess is completely worthy of a 5* authentic Greek band. I would have visited the bar more if that's what they had arranged. |When we went, there was a lady singing English songs, but I much preferred listening to Greek songs as they were more flattering for her voice and nice to listen to Greek music as well for us personally. I think the hotel should offer more entertainment too, however, there is never any trouble to provide you with recommendations. I quickly realised this hotel is obviously very classy and maybe their usual clientele prefers peace and quiet because it's super chilled during days and evenings. It's all about luxury here! ||Our first morning we went for breakfast and there was a musician playing some nice authentic music. We were greeted with their beautiful language, smiles and quickly sat down in the lovely restaurant, helped ourselves to a magnificent buffet, which I got highly addicted to because it was SO good. The waiters/waitresses served us the nicest orange juice, water and offered many types of coffee (all included in half board). If you wanted something a la carte, this was extra. ||The tour was very helpful and we made good use of the 'Do not disturb' /' Make my room' buttons! The housekeeping were so amazing, they practically offered to clean our room as soon as they'd already cleaned it! They work VERY hard. ||The first day we looked around (20th September) was a little cloudy and windy, but we had a lovely time down in the beach gazebos, where you could press a button and someone would graciously serve you. You are offered towels too.||The pools were a bit chilly for us that day but if you wanted, there is an indoor heated pool and gym inside with the spa. You can also pay extra to have your private pool heated at different temperatures. ||I personally did use the spa but in my opinion and compared to prices I'm used to in the uk, it was too expensive. The place itself was well-maintained and the girl who did my treatments was pleasant, but I wouldn't spend that much again for the treatments I had. I also got the feeling it inconvenienced the spa manager when I asked if they had room that day for any treatments. My advice is to book at least a day in advance, and know what you want before going there! Also, if your flight is later in the day after check out and you want to use the showers, book through reception in advance as well. |I paid €235 for two treatments, which was a third of the money I brought with me, and in hindsight it wasn't worth it for me.|They had nice cucumber water and facilities though, including 24 hr gym which had everything I needed and a good selection of weights and equipment. ||We spent several STUNNING days down on the beach or in the pool and LOVED EVERY SECOND. We developed great admiration for everyone who served us. I'm afraid I didn't catch everybody's names, but mainly it was GIORGOS and SOFIA at the beach bar AND TEADORA and another lovely lady at the pool bar. Keep doing what you're doing, you are all amazing. ||There are two restaurants, The Eternal Blue seafood restaurant and Meat in Point which offers the main menu or a Greek option. |We were asked to reserve ahead and choose one of two meals for the Greek option. At first I was confused why there was only two, but when the dinner came, you were provided with the most INCREDIBLE food and several pre-dinner meals.. Which were ALL INCREDIBLE. We wanted to eat everything but should have saved some room for the final meal. It was DELICIOUS! The chefs deserve a lot of praise.||After trying two off-site restaurants I wished I had not bothered, because there was a clear winner and that was at Nana Princess.|The steak was the best I've EVER tasted in 41 years! I 100% recommend going half board over bed and breakfast. If we hadn't, that steak was €72! Once you taste the food here and get the staff experience, you won't want anything else if you're like us.||The other places we tried was 'Blue Moon' in Koutouloufari and some place in Stalida. Bog standard. Good staff at Blue Moon but not even close to NP.||I've written so much already but wanted to give an honest experience. I've never felt that respected in my entire life, I felt like a Queen!! Every morning All the staff would greet us 'KALIMERA', then 'KALISPERA' all day, every day!! We never felt so good!! 😊||When we arrived home in the UK I tried to copy the breakfast in NP but it was not good haha. I also bought a mug which said 'KALIMERA' to remind me of these wonderful staff every time I drink a coffee! 😅💖||After our check out at midday, we had until 8pm to be picked up by our transfer. We were offered a free drink each at the bar, which was the icing on the cake and SOFIA STATHOPOULOU came to say goodbye at the end of her final shift before we left. She was WONDERFUL and we will very much miss her, CHRISTYNA our usual waitress, GIORGOS (who is a teacher as well) and the many, many other PERFECT STAFF ❤️||THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS ❤️❤️❤️|I hope you will take my recommendations/suggestions to complete the perfection at your amazing hotel 🙏😘🍹🙏😘🍹|We hope to come back ❤️|Aimee Weston and...
Read moreFirstly I want to start by saying I would rate our stay 4.5/5 and Tripadvisor make you choose 4 or 5 which is very unfair! So allow us to share our honest feedback.||We were absolutely delighted the suites are well equipped on a serious luxurious level, hosting technology and features we’ve never experienced before in the 5 & 6 star resorts, but alas technology can sometimes not be your friend! …leading to frustration when they did not work ‘consistently’.🫣||The suites are fully equipped on a different level to most 5 ⭐️, we won’t spoil any of the surprises and the walk in wardrobe has way more storage than you could wish for (that was a first for us!). The gym in the suite looked great, but it’s not what we wanted to do on holiday 😉.||Our arrival greeting (even though midnight) was exceptional, the front desk gentleman was brilliant supplying plenty of Prosecco, we felt so welcomed by him and the room service porter. |The room service was also high quality with food freshly made & arriving piping hot.||The hotel Guest Relations team, Sofia (x2) Joanna, Alla, Chrysa are truly one of the hardest working GR teams in the industry, there from 7am-11pm.|Via WhatsApp they will book restaurants, transport, sort issues, really they are the biggest asset in this hotel. Thank you ladies for everything you did for us.||The front of house gentleman / buggy drivers are all fantastic, it’s no bother to collect you for breakfast, take to you to reception, they even fix the safes 1 of ours ( yes you get 2) had errors twice, Constantino fixed it twice.||The mediocre …|The menu’s are very restricted. Snacks on the beach, very limited and nothing other than a basic salad for anyone who doesn’t eat meat. So limited altogether my husband had to go for club sandwich both times he wanted to eat on the beach…even the waiters agreed it’s too sparse. We had to go to the suite to order a burger from room service menu, although we saw 1 couple get one on the beach we were told we couldn’t.||Room service menu was the same for vegetarians / vegan, only salad & Margherita pizza (which I forced myself to order on arrival, when dairy intolerant and suffered the morning after).||‘Meat in point’ not much better same as room service with some tomato spaghetti and Zucchini balls, which were not balls at all & were greasy as fried! ||‘Eternal Blue’ really poor alternative selection only really Salad, 8 veggie Sushi pieces (which were not great, no Nori just rice that fell apart) and Asparagus Risotto. It’s like there was no consideration at all that a Vegetarian would need protein in their diet and choices….Feta cheese doesn’t do it, even if you eat dairy…remove that from a Greek salad and it’s tasteless anyway!||Whilst we had the pleasure of the GM personally greeting us to the restaurant (due to Suite challenges.. And one that never got resolved!), once seated it took 20 mins for water to be put on the table and it was lovely Sofia (GR team) who helped us get our order for drinks & dinner taken after 45 mins waiting. There were only around dozen tables dining, 4 waitress/ waiters & many people were waiting, it took an hour for bread to be offered even.||Our waitress was lovely, she could see I was struggling with the menu, tried to suggest risotto but I left the restaurant having only eating 2 pieces of veggie sushi, a couple of mouths of salad and hungry which should never happen.||Whilst we appreciated the surprise gesture of bill being taken care of by hotel, the whole poor dining experience really is what leads us mainly to only give the 4 stars rating. Along with the fact that we never got an issue of the Ants sorted that were in our bathroom daily, meaning we were killing term & clearing them up. I have to share Housekeeping did their best leaving it clean each day but Ants returned because no one would deal with issue and spray the balcony with Ant repellent where the powder goes back with Ants to the nest and kills them at the source. We kept doors shut but the ants got in.||The Beauty salon, we both had poor pedicures, not only could lady not speak English and laughed each time we winced with pain when she dug too deep constantly with metal cuticle tools. I shared feedback that she didn’t have basic tools for her job and the ones she had, were not hygienically clean. One of my husband big toes has a slanted nail now (90c slope) as she had no nail clippers and didn’t have strength to finish cutting his nail!| |I asked her to use wooden utensils and the tip was soiled red, it shouldn’t have been reused. After 3 attempts to paint my big toes I left with 8 pink toes and 2 clear as I made her remove the mess, I went back to suite to remove the rest of polish. The manager didn’t charge the 5e for polish. ||Spa experience we had 80 mins couples massage, the ladies were young and inexperienced, you had no choice on pressure you were told today is light to medium but sadly we both felt it was too light and didn’t address either of the areas we listed on the questionnaire pre treatment. ||Afterwards we were told, it’s already charged to room, so although I had arranged in in advance as a surprise treat, I wasn’t able to pay for it unless you wanted to be taken to reception by them to pay it! Then we had to do feedback forms before we could leave (so felt obliged to just mark 5 to get out of there quickly). |These 2 areas are also why as much as we wanted to give it 5 as Yes definitely it’s a 5 star hotel a few areas need improvement.||On the whole we left feeling rested after a week there and we dined out at some lovely recommended restaurants. Another big plus we loved is you don’t have to fight for a cabana on the beach, the rooms numbers 600+ get the best choice of these but the others are still greatly positioned and all are well equipped with comfy Sofa’s, rattan tables and 2 -3 luxury Sunbeds & staff can be quite attentive some days. Thank you to Giorgos who took care of us for 5 of the days. ☺️||If you want relaxation and sun and a private beach . 🏖️ and luxurious surroundings, this is the hotel in Crete for you. We would consider returning too. ||To the hotel management team, every matter we raise in our fair honest review was discussed with staff members so none should be a complete surprise, we can only hope its received as constructive feedback and some element is taken on board 🙏🏻. You are so close to perfection. |||Tips|Keep room card in the door slot to put Do not disturb or Make up room or buttons may not always work like you expect, I think GR thought we were crazy!||If you don’t like soaking in the Jacuzzi with ‘mother’s nature’ like Ants, Flying beetles take a retractable fishing net with you! ….even when ours was thoroughly cleaned the following day it was like it again & it’s not cleaned for you daily. ||We didn’t not use our outdoor Jacuzzi during our week stay which was rather disappointing as we wanted to and it was one of few reasons we booked the resort, as we enjoy such...
Read moreSo we feel compelled to leave this review having spent a fairly relaxing, peaceful week at this hotel. The suites are luxurious and they clearly try to think of every detail to make stay in enjoyable. I'd watched the hotel over 5yrs period & it maintained a 4.8+ rating across many sites, expectations were high!
The Cabana's on the beach are lovely, so are the team serving you. The GR staff are brilliant, so are the front of house staff inc team get you around resort, room service too.
Breakfast they try to cater for many tastes but really have no clue on how to make scrambled eggs (we still shudder at the thought of bright yellow runny eggs served daily!), and the 2 egg omelette even when you add every item on offer to it comes out thin as a pancake and lacking in substance. They play live music (a 1st for us to experience) but trying to get a 2nd coffee is a task!
Food menu choices - very lacking, they clearly don't think non meat / Dairy eaters need any protein and can survive on salads or Rice. The beach menu was pretty poor in options even for meat eaters, and impossible for 1 of us to dine from. The room service menu was lacking in options too but at least you could get items there you couldn't at the beach.
Meat-In Point menu, looks large but again veggie/vegan options very poor and Eternal Blue...Depending how fussy you are, you could starve like one of us pretty much did, and although hotel covered the bill as a surprise (*see below), service was awful, 45 mins to get order taken, 20 mins to get offered water to the table and only 10-12 tables occupied total for the night with 4 staff, there really was no excuse why many of us had such long waits. Food rating is a 2 here I am afraid.
Our room had a whirlpool, but we went to use it and it had loads of dead ants in it (see photo) and balcony had an ant infestation after a fuss the whirlpool was cleaned, but alas we went to use it next days and dead bugs and ants were back in it, because they cannot think to even cover them with a net or lid or clean them out daily, like most hotels do if you have outdoor tubs/pools. This meant we paid for the privilege to have it but not use it and managements response was "its nature". We did not even tell them about the cockroach we found in the rooms as it would have got the same response!.
The taxi firm the GR book you overcharged on 3 of the 4 trips (we know because trips home were less and shorter routes) with and we were even taken to wrong restaurant and abandoned nowhere near our restaurant one night, but the firm made it up to us by taking us there in a nice complimentary Mercedes another night. We feel like the hotel needs to fix the prices for trips on the contract so clients are not extorted.
Location is poor, there is nowhere you can walk to get lunch, dinner or a drink etc and Trip advisor lies when it shows you 20 locations close by within 1KM/ 1 Mile even.
The spa experience was underwhelming and not cheap at 280 euro's for that experience but yet you are forced to do a survey before you leave, knowing the therapist are expecting 5 stars and are waiting for it to be handed back.
The beauty salon, unless you want uneven toenails with badly applied nail varnish avoid! We both had scarred toes now and she did not even have proper manicure/pedicure equipment and it was not sterile. We wouldn't even give that a 1 star rating.
When I left I posted a 4 star review on Trip Advisor and no sooner I did I was disturbed by calls / messages that went on for the rest of the day (our 1st day home having landed at 7am!) they wanted the rating made a 5 and called it a favour and when I said no to front of house manager the hotel manager called and offered 2 free nights when we stay again if we amended the rating. Initially told take a couple of days, but messaged to say need to know by COB. I asked for offer in writing but was told it was agreement with him ONLY, no email offer.
So this is how they keep the rating high, as they bribe people to return so they can put it right. Sadly we would...
