Oh boy, where to begin. Well, this has been one of our favorite restaurants the past 6 years living here in Heraklion. Today, they became our least favorite including the restaurant in the center where we got food poisoning. Let me explain why you should not chance it here. First, the positives. The view is amazing out over the Cretan Sea and Dia Island in the distance. Second, the food is fresh and tasty enough. Third? Well there was no other positive today. The waiter brought our food in piles, no sequence, just here's your gruel, go ahead and eat. The place would have gotten four stars if, if, and if. If, the waiter had not been slammed to the wall waiting on 20 tables of locals, maybe he could have come to our table more than 3 times? Maybe. The temperature was stifling in Heraklion today, and even worse in the enclosed shed the restaurant serves the majority of guests in was even hotter. Ceiling fans either did not work, or somebody forgot to turn them on. Then we were ready to leave, but my mother in law could not flag down the waiter even by waving her arms like a flight deck airman on an aircraft carrier. Finally, we got the bill after I stood up and hunted down the waiter. We asked for a box because we wanted to take home most of my sixteen euro (you read correctly) single portion of Calamari. The bill arrived. Eighty three euro. Let me say this too. We dined at Crete's best restaurant, a top 20 in the world I won't name here, and without my wife's thirty five euro bottle of wine, the price for FOUR of us would have been the same! Oh, and two final nightmarish slip ups. The take home box was slung at me with a plastic bag so I could fill up my own doggie portion. Then, the ultimate Cretan buffoonery, no fruit or raki - just AMF tourists, let me get back to my locals. Unfortunately, we are locals too, only from America and Romania. Last note, this experience just crawled all over me since I've reviewed almost 100 restaurants in Crete. Never once, were we treated like this. I gave the waiter a six euro tip, because at the end of the day, the owner short staffed his or her restaurant. We will never darken their doors again. Too bad, it used to be one of the best places in the city to eat.

I will start with the positive aspects of dining at this fish taverna: it is off-the-beaten-path, facing the sea, and has a lovely nautical/ fishing boat atmosphere. They serve freshly baked bread (hot from the oven). And now for the not so positive experience: The catch-of-the-day is overpriced, but this happens in all fish tavernas. Almost everything on the menu is overpriced. A portion of grilled octopus, drawning in vinegar, is 12 Euro. A normal price, but the vinegar makes the dish almost disgusting. There was no water on the house, and no dessert (fruit) or raki at the end of the meal. We had to wait forever to get the bill. In all honesty, the restaurant was full, and the two waiters were overwhelmed. Still, the courtesy raki and dessert arrived promptly at all the other tables but ours. We used to like this restaurant, but after this experience I will not return.

I have been twice to this fish restaurant. It has amazing food and it is right in front of the sea. If you want excellent local food come here. When I have been it has been very quiet and service is excellent as well as the food. I will definitely go again and again. By the way bread from here is extremely tasty and I think made on site. Crete beer is a must to try, if you haven't already. I have included a picture. I don't normally like beer but I really liked this one.
