Safran — Restaurant in Municipality of Ios

When in Ios island, you definitely need to visit the Safran restaurant, close to Ios club. It is the definition of Greek cuisine at it's best, just like you are invited at your best friend's house and his mother is cooking! Because Mrs. Margarita is cooking and the dishes are excellent, delicious, and Greek cuisine at its finest! We've tried many restaurants and taverns on the island, and this one surpasses each and every one of them by far! Today we had dolmadakia (stuffed grape leaves with rice and meat with a subtle lemony sauce), tsimetia, a traditional island dish with zucchini flowers stuffed with rice and fresh herbs (the best on the island), local fresh green beans, and soutzoukakia (local meat balls with tomato sauce)! Unfortunately I have eaten here. We were charged for our food before it arrived which probably should have been a warning to me as this seemed unusual at the time. We paid for, and were verbally guaranteed fresh fish. I’ve had frozen “lemon fish in batter” before many times at my cheap local fish and chips shop, so I recognise it well. Thanks for the nostalgia. We received clearly frozen fish in a batter that had been reheated. Well played cunning hosts. The feta cheese on the salad was fresh though. We had a very lovely dinner at Safran in our visit. The food was amazingly good and authentic, from the grandma’s receipts. The staff were also very kind and made us feel very welcomed. The view was also nice in the balcony. Only suggestion we can make is to change the pop musics to authentic Greek one.
