Taverna Elia — Restaurant in Municipality of Kaisariani

I went here with my daughter. The waiter was kind and attentive. The food was good, but not amazing. My daughter had the "three steak" dish which consisted of three small cuts beef. It was decently seasoned, but not memorable. The steaks had no char and tasted like they were steamed (probably pan fried while still wet). They also had some dried herbs sprinkled on top, which made the experience of eating it unpleasant. If you don't know what I mean, just sprinkle some dried herbs in your tongue and chew on them. Sadly, I can cook a far better steak. My daughter really liked the french fries that came with the dish, however.

I had the moussaka. I've never had it before, so I cannot tell you if it was amazing by local standards, but it was fairly underwhelming. I'm going to order the dish at some other place and see how things compare.

I might go back here, but would not make it a high priority. Taste-wise, I'd say this place was about a 3. I'm bumping the score to a 4 for the nice ambiance...

We returned last night to Athens after a whole day of journey from Florence via Rome. We took it easy this morning and rested. At about 4:00 PM, we were really hungry because we didn't eat anything since last night. The taverna was just a block from where we are staying. We were greeted with warm buns with butter and olives. For three of us, we ordered Greek salad, Zucchini Croquettes, and ham and sausage pizza. Even with empty stomach, we couldn't finish the pizza. The salad was wonderful with a big chunk of feta cheese on top, great tomatoes and cucumber, the nice touch of capers, red onion, and green peppers with plenty of olive oil. Pizza was good but could have been a little less crisp, especially the edges. I kept the best for the last - the zucchini croquettes. It just melts in your mouth!! This place has a lot of sitting space. The bread that is served as a side dish tasted like it was fresh. When it was served it wad still warm. The T-bone steak I ordered was wonderful. It was easy to get it off of the bone and had a really good taste. The meat in the mixed grill also was very good. This had a chicken, beef and a sausage. The fries that where served with these dishes didn't have a lot of salt on them. There was a flask of salt, so the previous problem didn't have a lot of impact.
