We stumbled across this place during our yoga retreat "Indulging in the flavours of Cretan cuisine with twist at Kissamos, Crete was an absolute delight! From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that truly embodied the spirit of Greek culture. This restaurant is run by Mary and her husband Messiah Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, bursting with the freshest ingredients and authentic flavours of the region.
We started with a meze platter showcasing a variety of local specialities, including creamy spicy dip ( must have dish) , tangy feta cheese, and perfectly seasoned courgette feta cheese balls. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the grilled kebab, tender and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Accompanied by a glass of local red wine, it was a culinary experience we won't soon forget.
The main course, a traditional Cretan chicken dish, pork was cooked to perfection. Roasted vegetable infused with aromatic herbs and spices. Every bite was a taste of the rich culinary history of the island.
To end our meal, we enjoyed a decadent serving of homemade ice cream. It was the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable dining experience.
Overall, our time at this Cretan food gem in Kissamos was nothing short of extraordinary. The combination of delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and genuine hospitality made it a highlight of our trip to Crete Yoga retreat. We highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience the true essence of...
Read moreGood and bad — overall, a mediocre experience.
The good:
The restaurant is located right on the seafront, and it’s a very pleasant experience to dine on the terrace with the waves crashing nearby.
We liked how they managed to combine modern architecture with the old wall — it’s something you don’t see very often.
The place is clean.
The staff, while not particularly warm, was reasonably friendly.
We ordered octopus and grilled fish — both were good (especially the fish, which tasted genuinely fresh).
The bread with olives, which was said to be “on the house,” was very tasty.
The bad:
Despite being told the bread was “on the house,” we were charged for it, and it wasn’t cheap, either.
The portions are ridiculously small (see attached photos).
Unlike the fish, the fries were clearly not fresh — you could easily taste the frozen flavor.
The prices are quite high, noticeably higher than in many restaurants in the tourist areas of Chania or Agios Nikolaos. And honestly, you can’t really compare the modest town of Kissamos with either...
Read moreKouzou Mama was a delightful surprise to my girlfriend and I while staying for just one night in Kissamos. Stretching parallel to the ocean we found ourselves at a table right along the wall where the ocean meets the land. It was like a scene from a movie. The entire menu just made our mouths water, but we had to narrow it down. We started off with the marinated mushrooms and they were absurdly delicious and well prepared. My girlfriend then ordered the Cretan salad for something light and tasty and was certainly pleased with her choice. I order the lamb ragoo with homemade pasta and was blown away by the infusion of lamb into the ragoo, it tasted like it had been stewing for hours and hours. A couple of local Liras later (local beer I highly suggest) we were both patting our stomachs with delight. Do your self a favor and check this place out, you will not be...
