This restaurant deserves a much higher rating! After eating at 3 different restaurants in Monemvasia, this stood out. It is not a tourist trap but a restaurant focussed on delivering quality culinary creations. Really sophisticated service, the staff speak great English, and little touches such as pouring our olive oil and changing our plates show that the owners are experienced restaurateurs. They also take reservations which seem necessary for dinner but not for lunch (nowhere is particularly busy at lunch). The food - absolutely exceptional, exciting modern Greek dishes. Perhaps priced a little higher than some of the others along the strip, but absolutely worth the money. We paid €47 for a salad, 2 mains, bread, water and ouzo. The pork with carrot purée and molasses sauce…wow. It is one of the best dishes I’ve had in the past 2 weeks travelling around Greece. The Greek amatriciana pasta was so delicious and a beautiful take on the Italian classic. Serving sizes were perfect too. What I also appreciated - beautiful ambience in the terrace seating area overlooking the plaza…AND no pressure to tip (which a highly rated restaurant near the entry to Monemvasia did, after a way more mediocre meal), of course do so if you feel comfortable! Thank you for a beautiful...
Read moreEven though the restaurant was understaffed making our server run like crazy attempting to serve everyone and not being able to give us attention (we had to wait a lot when we wanted something) he was nevertheless extremely polite and helpful and made us feel very pleasant and welcome! The food was absolutely delicious- i would only take away one star because the quantity was a bit small for the given price but it was very enjoyable nonetheless (and in a location like Monemvasia the price is alway expected to be a bit higher). I never eat cabbage, beetroot and fatty meat- and in this restaurant i ate all 3 and enjoyed them all so much! The pancetta was cooked to perfection- both crispy and juicy- we needed more of that! The betroot pasta was a revelation- a fantastic and unexpected surprise! The traditional sausage with orange and cabbage also did not sound appealing in name- but it was fantastic. I also recommend the orange pie- it...
Read moreThe restaurant is in the central square of the old castle, a great spot for lunch and dinner. With several balconies and a garden, there are many areas available to dine with nice views.
The food was a bit disappointing. Despite a very rich menu, the flavours left a little bit lacking. For example, the prosciutto pizza had mostly a hard yellow cheese along side a little mozzarella and fairly low quality prosciutto. The fried potatoes on the burger were not fully cooked through. The rocket salad was decent, and the mushroom sauté with truffle sauce was also decent.
The waiters were very warm and welcoming when we first arrived, but perhaps due to the location of our table (on a small balcony), we didn’t receive the best service and eventually had to go downstairs to pay our bill as the waiter didn’t come.
Overall not bad as an experience but compared to what we read on the menu versus what we ate, we felt it left a lot...
