First, the good. The staff at Bastione Malvasia is friendly and welcoming. The location of the hotel is great. Yes, it is at the end of the main street, so farther to walk, but it means you get unobstructed views of the city wall and see and it is exceptionally quiet at night. Our private terrace, as well as the terrace for the hotel cafe, was stunning and relaxing. This hotel also had the best mattresses and bed linens out of anywhere I have ever stayed in Greece. The toiletries and water pressure were good, as was the wifi signal. The room was a triple, and was very spacious with a bed upstairs and downstairs and unique features like rock right in the room. ||||However, the room did suffer, probably due to its location in an abandoned town on a rock. From dusk til midmorning, our room was full of pill bugs. I was okay with this, as pill bugs are harmless and good for the ecosystem, but there were over 15 - in my bed, on the walls, on the floor where I stepped. Not sure the hotel could help it, but I will say the doors did not seal well and there were no screens in the doors. I hike and camp and was fine, but I think many people would not be okay paying 110 Euro a night (good value otherwise) to sleep with bugs. The only other issue we had was that you were not allowed to take your breakfast to the terrace because it is part of the cafe - you must eat inside, which due to COVID, we did not prefer. The breakfast was high quality though, and the windows...
Read moreWe booked a room for 2 nights. The room was new, pretty, comfortable, and with a nice view.
Everything was well until our first morning, when at 6 am a horrible smell started infiltrating our room (number 3) which was apparently just above the kitchen.
It made us nauseous, dizzy, and coughing a bit. It smelled like food initially but then with the effects we started having, i suspected some kind of toxic gas or fumes.
We complained and requested another room. There was none available, so I requested to be refunded and leave. They accepted to refund the 2nd night only.
The lady acknowledged that they had similar complaints about the food smell, but not about gas fumes or getting sick, and she claimed that we "might be a bit sensitive". By the way there are similar reviews in booking. I kindly asked her to check herself the next morning.
So we paied for a sleepless night, we had to wake up at 6am, repack our bags and look for another hotel. Not to mention that we were feeling sick for half of the day.
The best is that they wanted us out before check out time so they can resell the room for that day. No need to check about the issue, just give the room away...
Read moreApartment is not by the hotel or hotel facilities. No help with luggage. They sent an older man to help me leaving and a younger kid to help arriving. I think they just asked people on the street if they wanted to make a few euro. No parking - so you need to organize a taxi if you can find something nearby ( I circled a few times and had to park at the bridge) Hard to get a hold of anyone since youre not near the main building and reception another separate building was usually empty. No view etc but apartment is very cute if you want to stay at an airbnb like situation away from the hotel then it is perfect for you . They should just give you things for breakfast in the room instead of trying to find the hotel and better arrival info so you can pack a day bag. I had a horrible not relaxing time which could have been avoided. Note that the weather during my stay didnt help having to go back and forth in a heat wave . Obviously not their fault. Overall was an...
