The imaginative approach described in Oinomelo’s posted menu, and their glowing reviews, led us to dine their the first time. Their excellent food, lovely backmpatio setting and view, and friendly service brought us back a second time.
Our first visit was a delicious lunch. We ordered the Kalathaki Limnou appetizer. The breaded fried cheese was drizzled with a perfectly executed cherry sauce, and sprinkled with finely chopped pistachio nuts and thyme. A fascinating take on the fried cheese we were already so familiar with - rich, layered textures and flavours made this a delightful treat.
We decided to order Goges - a traditional Greek pasta - just because we’d not seen it on any menus before. We only ate a small portion of the perfectly al dente, very generous serving. It was very good, though not a radical departure from Italian approaches to pasta. We asked to take the rest back to our apartment, where it served as a lovely appretizer course for an at-home meal the next day.
For our main course we decided to continue our quest for the best moussaka in Monemvasia. Their’s was very tasty, though it was a bit too creamy to take the “best overall” award. That said, we’d happily order it again.
We returned for dinner a few nights later. For our appetizer we chose Tsaiti, a local traditional pie with veggies and herbs, baked on the grill with local feta cheese and drizzled with bergamot sauce. Sound intriguing? We thought so, and it was delicious.
For our mains we ordered: Kopanakia (chicken legs with Aegina pistachios, dried grapes, baby potatoes and grape syrup); and, Pork Tenderloin (sweet potato purée).
Both dishes were very well executed. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the sauce delicious (though perhaps a tad on the sweet side). The sweet potato purée serves with the pork was fabulous, actually overahadowing the very good pork tenderloin in sauce as the star of the plate.

Read moreI had dinner here last night. The place is really nice and the service outstanding. I loved how passionate was the waiter about everything. Also the restaurant is located on the main alley in Monemvasia right by the western entrance (really convenient location). Before coming I had a look at the reviews and, seeing how good they were, I had pretty high expectations (also given that the prices are pretty high). I have to say that the food didn't meet my expectations at all unfortunately. I had a salad to start with (I think the Thessaloniki or something similar) and it was good. The only thing is that costed 14€ and it was really small. When I saw the price I thought it was gonna be either enormous or really special. But it was neither of those. Then I had the Shrimp Trachanoto. Honestly I was a bit shocked that a dish like that could be in the menu. It is a trachana dish seasoned with veggies (like tomatoes, carrots, spinach, etc.) on top of which were placed 3 grilled shrimps. The whole trachanoto didn't taste at all like shrimps because it hadn't seen shrimps until the last second when they were put on it grilled. It was like eating a "pasta con minestrone" on top of which somebody had mistakenly placed 3 grilled shrimps. Pretty disappointed to be honest. I told the waiter about it and she said that she would have communicated to the kitchen. At the end I paid 42€ for a dinner with 2 dishes, a glass of wine and a bottle of water. I understand we are in Monemvasia, but if you want to charge these prices you need to make...

We came in as a group of 8 people and the restaurant was completely empty. As we came in we even asked if we could be accommodated but were yelled at saying we couldn’t sit together. We hesitated but agree as the view is pretty. We then continue to be yelled at for being too many people and blocking the path even though we are quite literally sitting in the corners to take up the least space possible (in the empty restaurant). At this point we were hesitating to stay as the atmosphere was extremely tedious. But before we could make a decision the man running the restaurant for the day told us we were being ridiculous by asking to sit together and kicked us out. In doing so he shouted at my sister, a timid 14 year old child. We were a put together, quiet group, half Greek and very familiar with Monemvassia trying to be accommodating by squeezing into the corners of an empty restaurant. Unpleasant and bad attitude. (Note, the female waitress was kind, this review applies only to the 40~ year old man with...
