We naively thought this looked like an authentic place with great Greek food, but were greatly disappointed. We should have known what we had coming when we tried to order an aubergine salad, which they said they did not have but could replace with an aubergine oven dish, and when we asked about the 'fresh' fish of the day - which turned out to be fried calamares or fried white fish... We learned later this was because they only serve frozen food, that they prepare using a microwave and/or fryer. And then they do not even fry it well - the french fries were some of the worst I ever ate at a restaurant, so soggy. Overall we really did not enjoy our food. I wish we had looked at the reviews of this place before going here, because indeed, the place is not very hygienic. There is a dirty open kitchen with cats lingering everywhere. My stomache was upset the whole next day. To top it off, the place is pretty expensive, so I would recommend avoiding it.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a wonderful lunch at Marianthi. This cute, family owned restaurant has been a staple in Monemvasia for many years. My husband and I are Vegan and the staff sat down with us and using my little Greek I was able to ask questions about the menu to make sure we got food perfect for us. Some things are seasonal and not always on the menu (Xorta for example) we got the Greek salad without feta, bread, skordalia, fava spread, and fasolikia (Greek green beans). Also a local Monemvasia rose wine. The Fasolikia were just like my Yiayia makes and the Skordalia was the best I've ever had. The food was all freshly cooked and sourced from nearby villages. I am so grateful for such a beautiful, delicious, filling, affordable meal and memory to last a lifetime. Thank you!

Open for lunch in December, unlike most other restaurants in Monemvasia Castle. They checked our vaccination cards, but tables are close together in the small indoor dining area. Tables full at lunchtime. W.C. is up some stairs at the back of the kitchen. Could be cleaner. Many cats around the outdoor tables, one got inside while we ate. Staff should be better about keeping faces covered. Food was tasty.

Marianthi restaurant in Monembasia is an embarrassment to monembasia and the entire region. I have never been charged for 2-3 slices of stale bread €2,50. Not in Greece anyways. Whether you like it or not she places it on the table even if you refuse it, you are stuck with it in your bill. Very deceiving. Nasty way of doing business. MORE IMPORTANTLY THOUGH the Mousaka she serves without the top sauce (besamel sauce) is not mousaka but simply fried eggplants. The stuffed grape leaves should be “floating” on that special egg/lemon sauce but at Marianthi’s restaurant it’s simply plain grape leafs with some nasty stuff smeared on top. Somebody please tell this conniving lady that owns this Dump Nothing in the menu and NOTHING that this woman makes and served resemble Greek kouzine. It’s an overpriced and Disgusting place to eat. This is a friendly advice to all travelers to monembasia please AVOID this unsanitary dump. By the way where are the Greek Health (restaurant) inspectors ? They need to shut it down immediately. BTW any “good reviews” for this dump are suspect or simply written by naive easily amused people or close friends and associates of her’s. TRUST MY REVIEW AND STAY CLEAR...

We went to Marianthis' diner on a Sunday because the other diners were closed.

The first impressions were the following

*The waitress was not speaking Greek well and when she was asked what the chicken is? Breast or leg? She didn't know nor asked (UNPROFESSIONAL)

*The waitress also wiped the glasses in front of us and said water was having minerals inside and needed cleaning with a toilet which made me disgust (UNHEALTHY)

*Food was mediocre and my spaghetti came in cold (OVER PRICED)

*When we pay she charged us for bread which we never ordered and water which we never opened or drink (UNPROFESSIONAL)

*The old lady who was cooking without proper equipment like net in hair or gloves (UNHEALTHY)

*Tomatoes and some cooking materials were next to us.. IN PLAIN SIGHT (UNHEALTHY)

Overall, do not go to eat there since it does not have good food and I seriously believe it should be closed and as it poses danger to health. I can't really understand what the health services do...
