Café Ouzerie Barabbas — Restaurant in Municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades

Where to begin… I have traveled all over the world and Barrabba’s is one of the most authentic, fresh, and impressive restaurants I have ever eaten at. If you are looking for the freshest seafood in Naxos port - just go. We were so in love with it, we ate here twice. First, all drinks come with a “taster” paired to the drink. So for example, ouzo comes with a few pieces of octopus. This alone is a reason to go. Sample some local drinks and seafood before you even get the main course. Second, they happily show you the fresh catches and describe in detail the different seafood. The service was so patient and kind. Finally, we felt this was less touristy than other restaurants. Abbiamo scoperto due anni fa questo locale che abbiamo pubblicizzato e osannato a più riprese con gli amici. Siamo tornati più volte e la cortesia del personale nonché della gerente, l’ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo, l’originalità del locale e di vari dettagli ci hanno sempre sorpreso in positivo. Questa sera abbiamo invitato qui degli amici ansiosi di condividere questa esperienza, nella certezza che avremmo fatto una buona figura. Nonostante la riservazione telefonica con la richiesta di un buon tavolo ci è stata assegnata una postazione in piena corrente d’aria: abbiamo a più ripreso proposto soluzioni per un nostro spostamento (avevamo veramente freddo) ma nessuna delle possibilità proposte veniva accolta, nel frattempo arrivavano persone che non avevano riservato che si accomodavano al meglio e vedevamo spostare tavoli dall’esterno all’interno senza che il nostro disagio venisse minimamente considerato. La signora che con noi era sempre stata molto gentile ci ha ignorati e ha risposto male alla nostra ennesima richiesta di cambiamento di posto (o almeno di spostamento del tavolo, visto che di posto ce n’era anche all’interno): nessuno è più venuto al nostro tavolo così non ci è rimasto che consumare frettolosamente la cena al freddo, pagare e andarcene senza ordinare il dessert che avremmo apprezzato. Gli amici sono rimasti scontenti e si sono chiesti il motivo di questo trattamento in quanti noi fedeli clienti fedeli, noi siamo desolati per averli coinvolti in una spiacevole esperienza: abbiamo mangiato al freddo (c’era molto vento) e abbiamo potuto notare che l’atteggiamento nei confronti di altre persone che hanno chiesto di trovare una soluzione è stato molto diverso. Από το 2005 που πάω διακοπές στη Νάξο τα καλοκαίρια περνούσα σχεδόν κάθε ημέρα μπροστά από το Βαραββά και όλο έλεγα πως θέλω να έρθω μια μέρα αλλά για διάφορους λόγους ποτέ δεν τα κατάφερα. Ήρθα μια φορά πριν απο είκοσι ημέρες και σήμερα είναι η τέταρτη φορά. Είναι το κλασικό μεζεδοπωλείο πλάι στο κύμα με τους μεζέδες και την μουσική του που σου θυμίζουν παλαιότερες εποχες. Απλός χώρος καθαρός και τακτοποιημένος με τα καθίσματα στο χρώμα της θαλασσας. Τα πιάτα που προσφέρει ο κατάλογος ειναι σε σωστές ποσότητες και κινούνται αναμεσα στα ψαρικά και στα κρεατικά με τον Στάθη και την Άννα στον χώρο των τραπεζιών για να μην μας λείψει το παραμικρό. Ο Βαράββας βρίσκεται μεσα στη χώρα της Νάξου κοντά στο μεγάλο parking. Μια μπυρίτσα, ένα κρασάκι ή μια ρακή με τον κατάληλο μεζέ είναι η πρόσκληση που όλοι περιμένουμε στις διακοπές.

Since 2005, when I go on vacation to Naxos in the summers, I passed almost every day in front of Varabbas and I kept saying that I want to come one day, but for various reasons I never managed to. I came once twenty days ago and today is the fourth time. It is the classic snack shop by the sea with its snacks and music that remind you of old times. Simple space clean and tidy with sea colored seats. The dishes offered by the menu are in the right quantities and move between fish and meat with Stathis and Anna at the tables so that we don't miss the slightest thing.
