As a solo traveller in Greece, I’ve noticed I have to advocate for myself, otherwise the servers forget about me. With this place, it felt hard to do so as the servers were either walking incredibly fast or not anywhere visible at all. Additionally, when I arrived, it took awhile for a host to come over, and even then they only addressed and seated the larger party of people who arrived way after I did. He left to seat them, didn’t acknowledge me, and took at least 6-10 mins to return. I should have taken this as a sign to go somewhere else.
The table I had was also very unstable and wobbly. They seated me very close to another table, so close I could bump elbows with the guy next to me. The atmosphere other than that is nice, especially when some street performers came to play music.
However, the food was very bland. I got the shrimp spaghetti, and it was possibly the most tasteless pasta I have ever eaten. I asked about the sauce before ordering and was told it was tomato, but I could barely taste that or any specific flavor. My food also took awhile, and the couple next to me who ordered at the same time had gotten 3 courses by the time I had one. They waited to bring the bread until my dinner came out, leaving me very hungry. Maybe if I got a meat dish I would feel differently, as the meat dishes I saw smelt and looked very appetizing.
Seems like ordering meat is the way to go here, I would avoid the seafood. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing and came on a busy night! I do wish I ate somewhere else, because even though the prices are lower than some other nearby restaurants, the quality is...
Read moreOne of the must places to eat when staying on the island and most people know it that's why in half an hour there was no table available. I really liked the sitting arrangement, because they didn't squeeze the tables to get more room for more tables, instead you had your space. Everything was clean (even the cultery were served inside a sealed paper bag) service was super fast and even though they were literally running they were friendly with a smile on their faces. Food was really tasty and portions were fulfilling. There are a few vegan options (lentil salad, Fava beans and more). Prices were also expectable. The only incident we had was with the calamari that we ordered. It wasn't thoroughly cleaned and we found the calamaris "feeces" and bones of a fish. We informed the staff and they immediate offered to replace the whole dish but we didn't want to. At the end they didn't charge it. We weren't bothered by it because that's clear indication that the...
Read moreLast restaurant on the island open in the middle of October and I’m happy Fanari was the one. We ate here daily for a week, and I loved the lemon chicken (to my pleasant surprise all dark meat, juicy and falling off the bone), goat in tomato sauce (all the goat and lamb dishes were juicy soft and flavorful), mushroom risotto (this really hit the spot, creamy, tangy, rich wine flavor), spinach pie (perfect for lunch, hot with melty cheese and a perfect tanginess). i also enjoyed snacking on the fried small fish, the boiled greens for dark leafy greens intake, any of the boiled potatoes that came with the dishes (really love that waxy texture and full of flavor). everything i ate was satisfying, like eating at a grandmas house. and also affordable to eat every day lunch and dinner. Oh, portions are huge, I often have leftovers for...
