Stelios Traditional Greek Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades

My wife had hake and chips for a main meal, and the fried courgette (zucchini) for a starter, both of which were good. However, I had the feta stuffed peppers to start and the moussaka for a main, and both were clearly not freshly cooked, possibly warmed in an oven but more likely zapped in a microwave (pings could be heard and there was only one other table with customers and they'd finished eating).

The moussaka was stodgy and largely flavourless (I felt like Gordon Ramsey pulling it apart in disgust) - such a disappointment.

Kids had spaghetti bolognaise, and that was also a pre-cooked microwave special, and only just warm anyhow. "

The baklava was shown as available on the menu, but despite so early in the evening it was unavailable (6.30pm!)

This place is fabulous! Ignore the previous 1 star reviews because this place is a family run, authentically Greek Tavern serving the best food on the island. The hosts were so generous in their friendliness and warmth that after the second night dining there, we felt like part of the family. The food was authentic, home cooked food and tasted amazing no matter what we ordered - we literally couldn't help stuffing ourselves every night! The Spanakopita was a standout, there is no better one in all of Greece! The owner/Matriarch, a Yiayia (grandmother) greeted us every night and treated us like family and the server was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. One of the few restaurants open in the area during mid-May. Very friendly service and dog friendly. Charming outdoor seating with partial sea view. We had Greek salad, stuffed grape leaves, a kebab and pork souvlaki. The salad and grape leaves were decent but the pork souvlaki was very good (juicy!). The kebab was more of a sausage than an actually hand made minced meat kebab, so that was slightly disappointing.
