This is a must-do restaurant for anyone looking for delicious, authentic Greek food. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff was so welcoming, and the atmosphere made me feel like I was truly dining with the locals. Although the exterior is unassuming (I’m not even confident they have their name on anything other than the menus), this place certainly has an identity of its own.
We were greeted by a cheerful man who didn’t seem to speak any English, who offered us a place to put our ample luggage in a side storage room, then leading us to a table. We ordered the chicken fillet, the tzatziki, and, at our servers suggestion, the fries. All of them were stunningly good. The tzatziki was fresh and light, the pita that came with it has genuinely changed the way I think about bread (it was chewy and crispy all at the same time in a way I’ve never experienced in a bread that thin), the chicken was moist and flavorful with a wonderful crust, and the sauce that came with it was tangy and delicious.
My only disappointments were that I only discovered this place in a hurry to get to the airport, and that I didn’t have more than one person to dine at this place with.
I have eaten at my restaurants all over the world, and this is amongst the best I’ve been to. It’s certainly not fancy, but if you have any doubts that casual must mean less than superb, let this restaurant put those...
Read moreA perfectly inconspicuous storefront in Naxos hides this little gem of a taverna. The owner, Fotis, invited us in with open arms and a huge smile, and directed us to one of the tables helpfully covered in wax paper to ward off the inevitable grease stains. The menu was short: instead of variety, the focus seemed to be on making a few traditional meals well. We ordered roasted lamb, gyros, Greek salad and a serving of pita. Everything was ready in five minutes: the portions were huge and the meals every bit as authentic as we hoped they would be. The lamb was particularly tasty and the owner trying his best to explain to me using body language and a phone equipped with Google Translate that I should drop my fork and knife and use my hands for the lambchop instead added a touch of hilarity to the meal. The prices were fair for this type of restaurant: we paid €32 for everything including drinks, the most expensive item being the lamb at €13 (note that unlike most other meals, the price of the roasted lamb is based on weight: the barebones menu isn't very clear on this). Overall, the authentic and delicious meals and the friendly service make this place one that I can...
Read moreI was in this place two times. First time was perfect: excellent food and service in a typically greek style and atmosphere. So we trusted them and came back again after a few days: tired after a long trip on a ferry and we immediately chose this restaurant.
Unfrotunately it turned out to be the worst choice. We chose exactly the same dish that we have ordered previously: gyros. But this time it was awkful: the meat was fatty and with a lot of parts hard or even impossible to bite. The taste was terrible: completely different than the first tome we tried it.
We spent 40euro for something which we regreted the entire day, we all felt ill and fuzzy after that food.
I am keen on spending money on food, but it needs to be tasty. Here I don't know what we paid for.
I am really sorry because I trusted them. The reataurant's quality should be stable - the same all the time and not depending on the day...
