Diktina, one of our favourites in Kolymvari. We ate dined there twice, because it's so friendly and they got fabulous food!
Family run restaurant, directly at the new harbour. Daily fresh catch from the sea and special offers too.
Bread is addictive, comes with tomato spread - olive oil and salt finish a perfectly roasted starter. Kids loved to crunch on it.
Octopus comes either sun-dried and then grilled, which we had. Or plain grilled. Sun-dried is bit more chewy (they will tell you that), but it's much more tasty, that the plain one. Quite a unique experience of taste. Really, really good. The texture is not bad at all. Yes, there's softer octopus in Crete, but this wins the taste competition.
Dolmadakia, the stuffed wine leaves. Traditional and exceptional tasty here! We met the (probably) grandma one morning, preparing the filling in her little place in the ground floor (harbour side). And it looked and smelled amaaaaaazing! To entertain our kids, she fed a bit to the ducks, living there under the stairs. Next evening, we had them and they melt on your tongue. Seriously. There are so many tastes in each bite - it's hard to describe but phenomenal good. Get them! They won't fill you up, but please your soul!
Oysters are 3€ each.... very affordable and super nicely presented on the plate. Chilled on ice cubes and lemons, with proper tools. Our 6 y/o inhaled them like no tomorrow. All of them.... and according to him, they are very good (and smelled nice and fresh).
Bureki was my wife's choice and also this dish tasted fantastic - with little ingredients, but prepared with so much care. You won't regret ordering this non-meat dish. It goes down really well!
The fish fingers, called fish sticks, come with crunchy fries and fill a kids belly easily. Very nice crust and super tender fish filet strips. Kids had me taste a piece and therefore I can just recommend them. Much better than the frozen ones from the supermarket.
Grilled shrimp number 1 are bigger than the other variant, called garlic shrimps. Plate comes with just 4 shrimp - so better order a side dish, or a nice starter. Tate is very good and tender! Just a few bites, but well worth it!
Xopta, (spoken "horta") is not in their menu, but my wife asked anyway: of course they have that. We got introduced to this dish just yesterday, but I could eat that every day! It's a special, seasonal herb - sometimes even different ones. This one looked like cale, but it is not. Super tender steamed, so that those leaves disintegrate as soon, as they hit your tongue. Super soft and somehow like spinach texture. Taste is absolutely out of this world!! Nothing to compare with, but trust me: it's worth asking for it! You'll never forget that!
Dessert was a potpourri of melons and cherries, which are rich in taste and make you want more! Adults get a little flask with a brownish liquid in it: Rakomelo! Anis spirit with honey! Sounds weird, but gives a fabulous mixture of both worlds! I watered it a bit down (I don't drink) and it gave me the most delicious dessert!!
House wine is very delicious and not too strong. Even I can have a sip of that! Goes super well with the food.
Spotless clean and super friendly with foreigners (kids as well). The terrace out back shows you that magnificent Kolymvari scenery with harbour and village!
Very highly recommended! There is actually nothing, that didn't taste fantastic there. No matter which choice you make. Very nice place with history an amazing family, that runs the...

We have tried a few places in Kolinbari and while we would def say they are all decently good, this is by far THE BEST fish restaurant we have tried in the area. They only serve fresh fish, caught on the same day, you can absolutely tell the difference in taste and texture. The staff is super nice and literally everything we have tried was delicious. Also, the spot is unique, as you are having dinner outdoor on a large square in front of the local small port. After discovering it, we went back every single evening and would def recommend any grilled fish (we have tried the snapper, sea bass and the tuna filet), mussels, fried calamari, shrimps and of course the greek salad.
A part from the fact that our holiday has been great overall, we would consider coming back to Kolinbari even only for the pleasure of having dinner there again. We were so enthusiast that we have told the owners to consider expanding abroad 😂
Absolutely recommended! Authentic vibe and top quality...

My family and I went there as it were quite close to our hotel seeking a genuine cretan meal. First impressions were nice - friendly staff and excellent view. We ordered saganaki for ourselves, which was quite tasty, and fish sticks for our daughter. We asked if it the fish sticks were fresh or frozen as it didn't say in the menu and the waitress promised it was fresh. As soon as the food arrived we could clearly see it was clearly frozen supermarket fish sticks. Yawn. Not a big problem per se but why lie about it?
When we asked for the check they brought in some sort of fig dessert and some local raki or ouzo. We didn't ask for it nor did we order it and we didn't taste it either as we weren't in the mood. But lo and behold it sure as heck showed up on the check when we paid.
Avoid - there are much better restaurant on the same street which have better food and don't screw over their costumers.
Two stars - food was decent but everything...
