What to say about this resort? Ah, why can an exclusive resort be considered a very poor hotel with the worst sea you can encounter in Crete? Only the (very high) prices are worthy of a resort. The rest to forget: they even charge you for the safety box (20 € per week, when even in a hostel it is free). The interior and exterior are very dated, and sometimes dilapidated (see attached photos). The first room they gave us had a faulty air duct and made a noise that didn't make us sleep all night. We requested a room change and were given a similar room, with other problems unfortunately. The wooden front door has crumbled due to the bad weather of the years or perhaps also thanks to the cleaning lady who passes the water pipe to the ground every morning, wetting the door and also flooding our room. The breakfast food is worthy of a two star hotel. Indeed, in some cases we ate better in a two-star hotel. The products were always the same and pre-cooked or packaged. No water at breakfast ... But you could only have it by paying for it. Finally, on the last day we requested half hour early breakfast due to our flight. It was granted to us, but once we got there they gave us food worse than usual and the day before, when all the breakfast was already set up ... Then they made us eat indoors and not outdoors, without air conditioning. The heat was suffocating. We pointed this out and were told that early breakfast can't be done outdoors ... So we didn't eat anything and left. Also, the bathroom in both rooms was dated, and water was dripping from the floor (see photo). The pools are dated and sometimes even dirty (see photos). In addition, the worst experience was being attacked by a stray dog. This dog circulated freely in the hotel and one morning he attacked my wife and I and we were saved because we responded to the attack by throwing all our objects at him. If we hadn't done so, we would probably be in the hospital now.

A decent hotel which biggest advantage is their rule “No children allowed”. If they got rid of these pesky cats at the patio it would be even better. Food is not their strong point despite they focus on the local cusine which is a plus for me. Generally it is not bad, but choice at the buffet is monotonnous and quite often you can see that it is being prepared in a hurry. The “a’la carte menu” is very dissappointing. If you want something special, try some nearby restaurants. It will be worth it! The beach is rocky with clear water. They will charge you for the sunbeds though. They will not if you take a bed near the pool (about 5 meters further from the sea than the paid beds). Oh... and beware of “sea view rooms” as this means that the window is facing towards the sea (not the street) even if all you can see are the walls of other buildings and a palm that blocks any sea view. So if you want to be waken up by the sound of waves and not the janitor’s trolley, take the “sea front rooms”! If you book via Itaka, dont allow them to scam you into paying for the sea view that you wont get. The personel is friendly. Only occasionally they do something strange like asking “what do you need it for?” when you ask them for a bottle of water. They also have a weird sense of hot and cold. Generally, barely anything there is cold. Drinks are at best a bit chilled so be prepared to ask for a lot of ice. Overall, the place is nice. Recommended if you want to have a rest away from all the families with screaming brats. Pity that Itaka only offers All-Inclusive option.

How can you beat eating breakfast, lunch and dinner sat on the beach, every day?! We had a wonderful week at Grand Bay thanks to the staff. They’re all so friendly and helpful, you can tell they really take pride in their jobs. Ask and they will do their upmost to help! Small hotel, but very spacious, plenty of seats, a few pools (most for private areas) but one for all with sea view. 3 nights of entertainment and a couple of other day time activities. Spa if you fancy a massage, ours was lovely. Bus stop right outside to get into Chania/other more busy areas. We also booked an excursion to Kournas Lake via our Jet2 rep who was also very helpful, this was a great day our via a 3rd party company, very well organised & the hotel organised us a lunch box. Only downside was there was a bit of a queue in the evenings for the bar, would be helpful to have the pool bar open in the evening too as it was nice to sit and listen to the sea & it’d help to reduce queues. However the two young gentleman can make some very good cocktails, so it was worth the wait! Lovely food & good choice for both food and drink - if you fancy a night out it’s not a party area but you can go up the beach to an array of restaurants. I had a cocktail at Milo’s which was amazing and we ate at Palio Arhontiko which tasted soooo good!

Disappointing Experience – Poor Service, Safety Concerns, and Unequal Treatment

I booked a room directly through the hotel’s official website, selecting their advertised all-inclusive package with a garden view. Less than 24 hours before check-in, I received an email saying my reservation had been cancelled and that I’d been moved to another hotel. While they claimed the new hotel had a better view, I booked this property specifically to stay with friends who were already there. I called to explain this, but the staff insisted the new location was just a 2-minute drive or a 15-minute walk — neither of which were true. My friends went to the reception on my behalf (as I was still abroad for work), and they were told the new hotel was actually 3 miles away and that my short stay “didn’t matter.” The overall attitude was dismissive and made it clear I was not a priority to them. Thankfully, my friends managed to get the room reinstated, but the message was clear: short-stay guests are treated as disposable during high season.

When I arrived, the restaurant and bar staff were friendly, but unfortunately the rest of my experience was unacceptable. I got stuck in the lift twice. The first time, the electricity went out — I was inside with no light, pressing all buttons, and the door wouldn't open. When staff finally got me out, I was blamed for not opening the door myself — absurd given there was no power. The second time, the lift malfunctioned again, descending but failing to open. A maintenance worker had to pry open the doors, and the lift was not level with the floor. He was clearly aware something was wrong, yet no sign or warning was posted. When I raised this at checkout, I was told, “if the maintenance man is there, we’re aware of it,” as if that excuses the risk to other guests. This is a serious safety issue.

I was also told to leave the bathrobe and beach towel on the floor to have them replaced. I followed instructions, but no replacements were provided. When I asked, reception said if I’d done so, I would’ve received fresh ones — but I had. Then they claimed they’d run out and would deliver them later, which was no help since I was already at the pool. I returned later in the afternoon — still nothing.

On day one, the toilet in my room was broken and wouldn’t stop flushing. I reported it and it was eventually fixed. The hotel left a fruit basket and red wine as compensation, but as I had an all-inclusive package, this felt like a meaningless gesture.

We also asked the night before about booking a taxi into town for five people. We were told it wasn’t necessary to book in advance — just call and it would arrive within 10 minutes. The next day, we called and were told 15 minutes, which seemed fine — but we ended up waiting 30 minutes more. When we checked with reception, we were told the taxi was far away due to traffic. If that was expected, we should’ve been informed the night before, and we could’ve made proper arrangements.

Most disappointing of all was the clear difference in how I was treated compared to my friends — who booked through an agency. They received goodbye gifts like herbs and soaps. I, who booked directly through the hotel’s own website (at full listed price), received nothing. Yes, I booked the lowest-priced garden view room, but I didn’t expect to be treated like the least valued guest.

In summary, my stay was filled with avoidable issues, poor communication, safety concerns, and a general feeling of being unwelcome. While some staff were kind, the overall experience left me feeling frustrated, ignored, and disrespected. I will not return and cannot recommend this...

This hotel is superb in every way, best I've stayed in yet. It is spotless and well maintained. I'm still here while typing

The staff are so friendly, very helpful for our every need, they really care in you enjoying your holiday as much as possible. Anything you need, just ask or talk about it, they will literally do all they can.

Pools are clean, cool, it is early May, so understandable.

The sun loungers are wooden, beautifully comfortable and are slightly higher off the ground. There are enough to go around far as I'm aware with extras

Certain rooms have their own sun lounger outside the room and some with a pool shared amongst just a few rooms, giving that exclusive calm, tranquil feel, to be honest that's everywhere around the hotel, it comes at an extra cost, as did our room for a double sea view room.

The food outstanding in my opinion, the cooked English breakfast wasn't for me, but that's often the case, always plenty of alternatives. Evening meals vary with more choice than other hotels we've been too, (with chips everyday, and potato style foods as an additional extra most days)

Highly recommend all the food as all is made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients, apart from some of the breakfast, I particularly enjoyed the fresh salads, pasta and pasta sauces and meatball dishes cooked in sauce.

I asked the waiter for the pasta sauce recipe which was personally written and handed to me by the chef, giving me the opportunity to thank him and his team for such amazing food.

The cocktails and all drinks are gorgeous, wine is local and delicious. Sometimes there is a wait for drinks in the evening indoor bar, it didn't bother us as we found plenty of people to chat to while we waited.

The beach is stoney, there's a lovely walk to town which is lovely. The views are stunning, this really is a true hidden gem away from any hustle or hassle!

We chose this hotel as the evening entertainment is only once every few evenings, as this means people chat more, and in a calm happy chilled way from my experience. It feels very special here, and most other visitors as wanting the same experience.

Theres some beautiful walks, and local tevernas outside the hotel, it really is tucked in a stunning location.

The Jet2 rep is amazing, with amazing trips, Knossos is a long way to go, perhaps better arrange own way there, or do an overnight trip to soak up the area too.

There are three other sister hotels that can be enjoyed, depending on your package as to what you can use.

Massages are the best, the gym is okay.

If we'd known about the all inclusive extra or plus we'd order it at time of booking, it seems worth the extra from what I hear.

If you're wanting Greek feel, Greek food, luxury, lovely staff, amazing views, a clean calm place, this may be the place for you.

If you like to be entertained, loud music, noise due to lots going on this hotel may not suit you

As others mentioned, we had food plus fruit bowl and wine in our room on arrival which was welcomed as we too arrived in early hours.

Definitely best hotel with best staff we've experienced. It was booked it through Ollie via Travel counsellors

The only downside is we have to go home in a few days time. We do get to use all fascitilites before we leave which is a nice touch to...

Right... where to start with this review... I travel a lot for work all over the world and spend nearly 150 nights per year sleeping in hotels so I'd say I have a pretty good comparison! When booking make sure you select the room with the private pool and the sea view even if your travel agent says it's paid extra - believe me it's well worth it. We stayed in room 207 and we loved it ( 208, 209 and 2010 are also great ) or stay in the beach front apartments ( not available apparently if you're polish LOL these are reserved for the tourists from western countries and since Poland is still classified as 7th world country, no chance to even select any of these rooms at the booking stage ). Now :

  1. FOOD - absolutely amazing, wow...and I know what I'm talking about when it comes to food ( I worked in hospitality for 7 years ). Fresh fish, calamari, shrimps, tuna, sword fish, octopus etc., the beef is to die for, grilling stations with different meats, vegetables are just on another level - olives OMG, trust me you have never seen whiter onion, feta cheese, bread etc. the food is just brilliant! I recommend booking the table with the a'la carte menu where you get to experience the fine dining style dinner.... the chef is so talented, it's just unbelievable - we planned to go once and we went three times because it was soo bloody good! Grilled Octopus for starters ( OMG) and salmon teriyaki (OMG) and apple pie ( OMFG).
  2. SERVICE - lovely folk, fantastic people, nothing is too much trouble, always very attentive, always ask you if you need anything, hard working lot ( 7 days a week in the season ). When it comes to customer service - this hotel is spot on. I don't know all the names, everyone was great but there is one guy who deserves a special mention here - young lad called Michalis ( I think he's a manager there and if he's not yet, he will 100% be a manager very soon), who from the minute we arrived to the moment we were leaving made sure our stay was perfect, always attentive, organizing everything from restaurants bookings to showing you the rooms, helping you with the luggage etc. My wife has 2 restaurants and said she wish she could find a manger like him in Poland...not many young people with such great work ethic. Real asset to the company he is.
  3. CRETE - what a gem... WOW - make sure you see Elafonisi, Falasarna, Balos, Heraklion... just awesome places and beaches.

Just to summarize - hotel is awesome, very discreet and quiet, tranquility at its finest, the views are brilliant, not many hotels are located directly at the beach and this is really something, great food and drinks, lovely and helpful people. What else you might want from a holiday ? We are totally happy and can't recommend the...
