Restaurant has a nice atmosphere thats why I give 2 starts but they are short staffed only 3 or 4 waiters dealing with around 25-30 tables. You have to wait for 15-20 mins to find a waiter passing by to ask for something.
We have ordered lamb with potatoes and zucchini in the wood oven, there was no zucchini on the plate just potatoes and lamb. We liked the taste.
For the second main dish we have ordered meat pie which seemed like speciality of the restaurant and we expected a fresh and pipping hot pie however it was very dissapointing. The pastry was dry, and tasted like was cooked few hours ago and just warmed up before serving. Meat and cheese inside was barely warm.
We complained about this and sent the dish back and asked for a menu to order something else, waiter gave us a menu but for another 20-25 minutes no one came to take the order, several times we had to wave to the waiters who are passing by in a rush but we could not get anyone to take our order. Finally we managed to draw waiters attention but it was already 25 minutes waiting and we were tired of waiting we just asked for the bill and they took the pie off the bill (as we didint eat it) restaurant didint make up in any way for this mess up apart from saying sorry.
It was our last night in crete so it was not a nice goodbye dinner.
I strongly advise to the owner to employ more waiters as the atmosphere was very good and lack of staff is letting...
Read moreIf you are going for the grill, remember to ask what's available before sitting. I got tempted by the fire at the entrance because I wanted grilled lamb, and we went in invited by the nice lady at the entrance. The service was very good. It took them a while to hand over the menus and then take our order, but after that they were very fast and friendly. Despite the fire was on, they told me they didn't have any grilled lamb left. I asked then the waiter to recommend a dish, he recommended a stewed lamb that to be honest it was quite dull and disappointing. We also asked for a pilaf, and that wasn't good either. The rice is made in lamb fat and it tasted alright, but the presentation and the rest of the dish was not good. Two big chunks of chicken breast, a bone of lamb and a huge chunk of lamb fat with connective tissue. It looked like dog food. The dishes had a very decent size, and other's people dishes looked better than ours. Maybe we were unlucky with our choices. The appetizers were good. Lastly, it is an open space and thus it is allowed to smoke. So if you are okay with eating while inhaling other's people Marlboro, then you...
Read moreStopping at the Minoa Palace, we got a whiff of something incredible cooking whilst sat by the pool.
We were bed and breakfast at the hotel with so many amazing places to try in Platanias.
Kanelis Cretan restaurant needs to be one of them!
We booked a table for Friday night (probably advisable) as there was live Greek Music on until late.
I had the lamb antikristo which is cooked on the fire right outside the restaurant. As far as I’m aware, there’s nowhere else in Platanias serving meat cooked this way! The lamb was incredible, being a meat lover I devoured it all! Half a kilo was plenty for a man with a good appetite!
My wife had the chicken souvlaki, which was cooked on open coals and was very tender and very well cooked.
The atmosphere was brilliant! With live Green music and people up dancing , it was one of the highlights of our holiday!
The staff were ever so attentive, friendly and helpful, taking time out to explain about the outside oven, the history of the family run business and even teach us some new Greek phrases!
Certainly a gem that you don’t want to miss...
