We came here on the first day of our holidays. This taverna was located next to our hotel, it had good reviews and so we decided to check it out. We were "welcomed" by a man, who didn't even say hello, then led us to the table which was not cleaned after previous guests, even though there were empty and tidy tables all around. We asked if we can seat at another table, he seemed annoyed. We received menus and waited for 15 minutes for our order to be taken. Meanwhile, the owner was drinking with other guests, ignoring us completly. We thought about leaving, but we were a bit tired and hungry after the journey, so we decided to wait. Finally, the order was taken by a lady, she was quite nice. I ordered mousaka, one of my favourites from greek cuisine. It was blant, greasy and burnt. My husbands food was ok, hence 2 stars and not 1. After asking for a bill we received the fruit plate, which is common in tavernas. But then we had to wait for the bill itself for another 10 minutes.. In the end, we waited for someone to come and give us our change. No one came for 20 minutes and so we left. There were other customers, of course, but it wasn't crowded, so the staff had no excuse to take such a long time. We felt ignored and unwelcome all the time we were there, mainly due to the behaviour of the owner. Thankfully, it was the only situation like this during our stay on the beautiful island of Crete and we experienced the greek hospitality in every other...
Read moreWhat a gem! I do not know if this happens every night but last night stands out as extraordinary to me. We had a Google for a good place to eat and Acropolis tavern caught our eye because of the nice reviews left by previous customers. We were met at the door by the proprietor Andreas (a true original), who appeared in obvious and possibly raki-induced excellent spirits. Andreas showed us to our table and from there on the night was/ a very unique experience. The food is really very nice but not the main reason for this rather raving review.
Andreas is a true Bluesman!
We had read about him giving live performances but expected classic bouzouki music rather than what we got; whic8h was a truly soulful performance by a duo lead by Andreas on guitar accompanied by a very talented man on bouzouki. I do not speak more than 10 words of the Greek language and understand fewer but was even so utterly captivated by Andreas' husky, unique voice as he spun wondrous tales the meaning of which I could only begin to guess at. No matter though - true blues speaks to the soul without words and I felt what brother Andreas was preaching.
Please try this venue! I leave no guarantees but if you should happen to visit on a fortuitous night you will never be disappointed.
Oh, and - please try...
Read moreWe had a truly wonderful experience at this restaurant. From the moment we arrived, we were met with warm and attentive service that made us feel genuinely welcome. The atmosphere was relaxed yet vibrant, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening.
The food was excellent across the board. Every dish was prepared with care and full of flavor, but the highlight for me was definitely the lamb — perfectly cooked, tender, and incredibly well-seasoned. It was one of the best we’ve had on our trip.
To top it all off, there was live music later in the evening, which added a special touch to the whole experience. It created a lively and joyful mood that brought an extra layer of charm to the night.
All in all, this place exceeded our expectations. Great food, great service, and a fantastic atmosphere — we’re so glad we chose to dine here, and we would absolutely recommend...
