After a recommendation from our hotel receptionist we visited the Thymari restaurant during our vacation. The warm and friendly welcome was a good start into a wonderful dinner evening. While we were waiting for our table we received recommendations for our drinks I tried a local draft beer which was excellent and my wife tried a local soda and she liked it a lot.
Our goal for the evening was finding an authentic greek taverna with good food. We found a five star restaurant with extraordinary service and a team which loves what it does.
Also for the food we followed the recommendation of the owner. We had a selection of starters and they all tasted excellent. Authentic Cretan food of outstanding quality and great taste was exactly what we were looking for. All food was seasoned very carefully. Thyme was always part of the food we ate. I wish I had a bigger stomach to have a chance trying everything on the menu.
Also the main course did not disappoint us. I had the risotto with a soft and tender lamb while my wife tried out the chicken. Again, we experienced a taste explosion of authentic Cretan food in our mouths. The chicken was juicy and well seasoned and the risotto was the best risotto I had in my life, creamy and cheesy, you couldn't do it better.
The dinner was closed with a nice apple compote with crumble, not from this world.
The food and the service can't receive anything else than a five star rating. I never ate better, was welcomed warmer (and always with a smile) and felt like being with friends. This is definitely a place to visit if you are looking for great food and the best service you can get on Crete.
Side note: We visited the Thymari two times during our stay. Both evenings were fantastic. The quality did not differ and the recommendations should be followed. The owner is asking for your preferences and makes a choice for you which you will not regret for sure!
Thank you Thymri team for this wonderful evening and the food experience which we...
Read moreSeems to be an only place in the area with a proper restaurant feeling (after you have been to all the “homemade”): it’s obvious from the menu, the way the table is “made”, dish presentation. We’ve been there twice during one week stay. Meze portions are mostly small, but main course is of a decent size. We took a starter to share, main course for each and shared the dessert. We were full’n’rolling back home. My grilled mix with potatoes from the first visit was very good. The potatoes, aka “french fries”, tasted so good, we ordered them from the starter menu on the next visit. But the cherry on the pie here is definitely the orange cake. Never tried anything like that before. A Greek delight with an orange twist. This cake is basically what I will remember most from this trip (didn’t take any picture, was completely out once served!). The one who created it is a genius to me. Prices might be 1-3 € higher than the rest of the places, but I think it’s worth the whole experience. The host is...
Read moreWhat an absolute gem! Just a short walk from the Nautilux Hotel, Thymari completely blew us away. The atmosphere is warm and stylish—modern yet cozy—and the service makes you feel instantly at home.
Now, the food… honestly, wow. The chicken was perfectly cooked—juicy, tender, and seasoned to perfection. I’ve never had chicken like that anywhere before. It was one of those rare dishes where you pause after the first bite and just think, “This is special.” And the lamb burger? Insane!!! Bursting with flavor, cooked beautifully, and paired so well with everything on the plate—it’s easily one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, anywhere in the world.
Every detail, from the presentation to the flavors, showed real care and creativity. Pair that with an excellent local wine list, and you’ve got the recipe for an unforgettable night.
Thymari is not just a restaurant—it’s an experience you’ll remember long after you leave. Highly, highly...
