Crete Family Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

We stayed 7 nights at Nautilux so this tavern was a good choice as it’s basically next door from the resort. The food was good and the prices are really good. However, our experience overall was poor (we were here twice). One of the owners (the older guy) has a pathetick atitude. We were talking to him that we don’t appreciate that in most of the taverns people smoke, as we are non smokers. He replied that “greek people are smoking people” and after about 15 minutes he started smoking and the smoke was disturbing us, as we were close by and still eating our lunch. Before that, he was really bragging about some customers that eat there everyday and always leave 100 euros. It was like he was trying to influence us to eat there everyday and maybe leave big tips. Which we did anyway. Just that we don’t appreciate a restaurant owner to talk about that. It doesn’t seem that professional and educated, does it? Then a guy that was barefoot and looked like he came from the top of the hill joined the owner and at some point he was literally staring at us. I was about to ask him what the … is his problem but i didn’t want to get in that energy. We came to enjoy ourselves in Crete not to get in conflicts. Anyway, if you’re an educated person i think you can do much better than this...

Stayed at nearby hotel for one week. First night ate near to Rethymno. Then found this gem the following night, and ate here for the duration. From start to finish the food was excellent, well cooked, well presented, and delicious. Also very reasonably priced. The welcome is warm and friendly, and very relaxed. Both hosts are extremely friendly and welcoming, and there is plenty of friendly banter, as you would expect in a Taverna. This was the best establishment we visited, and I would definitely return and would highly recommend to any future visitors...

Excellent food and friendly service. From the outside, it looks pretty much like all the other restaurants in the area, but do yourself a favor and stop in . They have a nice selection of entres and starters, but not so many as to overwhelm you. The service is very friendly and multilingual.
