EDIT: Adding a sign is a start, but definitely not enough. Your clients are tourists from around the world and not everyone reads English or Greek. Also, warning signs are not the first things people look at when they walk into a restaurant. You really need to do better.
EDIT 2: I see they updated their reply and it's now much more professional. It's probably AI-generated, but still much better, so whoever replied initially should let the person who replied afterwards take care of the restaurant's online presence.
There's a large floor difference right next to the table near the the water fountain, that is hard to see as it's not marked in any way. A person in my group fell while stepping there and got injured. We, as well as the owner of the restaurant, are very lucky she didn't hit her head against the metal door holder, metal water tap or the rocks that make up the fountain. If this were the UK or US, the restaurant would get a big fine, would be shut down, and the restaurant owner would be discussing with our lawyer how many tens of thousands of euros to pay in compensation.
The waiter that saw this didn't really do anything and I'm pretty sure he didn't tell the owner, as the owner thought it would be a good idea to make jokes about it, until I firmly explained to him she could have easily hit her head and died right there. He promised he will add something there to avoid other people falling, and said they've only been open for 3 months and it's good someone told him the problem, but forgot to even apologise.
He did however apologise for the food taking an hour to arrive - again, something that only he could fix by hiring more kitchen staff. When the food did arrive it was mostly good - the Souvlaki, Lamb, Greek Salad and Octopus were good. However, the Moussaka, one of my favourite Greek dishes, was one of the most disappointing ones I've ever had. More than half of it was just spongy Bechamel with almost no taste.
Overall not a great dinner. Everyone got lucky that night, but next time might not - please do something about that drop before someone gets...
Read moreEdit: reply to restaurant’s comment: I wrote this review with regret, as I see that you’re a recently opened family restaurant. I am as regretful as you this happened. You claim that it is ‘not fair’ for me to write such a review given that you have recently opened and have never had any other reports of gastrointestinal issues. However, this does not invalidate my claim, but does rather the opposite and validates it further. Perhaps you have not been open long enough for multiple incidences to be reported. Whether you are a new family resturant or an old one, your undercooked meat caused serious health issues. You should not dismiss this issue— please read the other review which notes pink chicken— and insure that it does not happen in future.
Though this restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, the food was unacceptable. One member of the party ordered chicken skewers which were clearly undercooked and pink. Symptoms of food poisoning began almost immediately after we’d left the restaurant and escalated. Though I myself did not experience immediate symptoms and consumed a vegetarian dish, after 48 hours I became very unwell and soon after I was hospitalised in back home in the UK with severe gastroenteritis. Hygiene standards/food preparation standards at this establishment require urgent improvement, as I read another review posted two weeks ago which mentioned pink chicken. Cross contamination/handling of raw meat also seems to be an issue. The restaurant is quite expensive and very pretty so we were really shocked to have been so ill after...
Read more🌟 A Hidden Gem in Crete! 🌟
We walked past this restaurant several times on our way to our accommodation and always hesitated to go in — it never looked very busy. But one night, we finally decided to give it a try… and it turned out to be the best culinary surprise we had in Crete!
Even though it was quite late, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were incredibly kind and helpful in guiding us through the menu. The atmosphere was cozy, the decor charming — but the real highlight was the exceptional food. Every dish was full of flavor and clearly made with care.
At the end of the meal, after watching how dedicated and friendly the team was with every guest, we asked if it was a family-run business. Petrus (I hope I got the name right!) confirmed it was, and shared a bit of his story with us. That’s when everything made sense — the warmth, the quality, the love in every detail.
Some places stay in your memory, and if I ever return to Crete, I’ll definitely come back here. Until then, I wish Petrus and his family all the success in the world. You’re doing an amazing job — and you truly deserve it! Best wishes...
