Returned after 2 years, this was the place we were most looking forward to, so ventured out on night one, looking for somewhere with good food, good service and somewhere to relax, play cards. The menu has changed significantly. The restaurant and bar is targeting a more Instagram target market. The cocktails have been renamed to sound outrageous and the menu it leaning towards Japanese inspired, we stayed and ordered as our previous experience had been great. The food arrived after a long wait and the portions sizes tiny for the cost. Two small peices of beef for 35 euro. Most expensive restaurant around for what you get! All 6 tables surrounding us had been left with no service multi tables with glasses empty and food finished with no attention, no repeat drinks and no desserts offered. Two tables around us had to walk up to ask for a bill while staff stood around clapping hands for Instagram moments with the live music. We waited to ask for the bill, eventually after being continuously ignored we went to the bar to ask for the bill. We then were told to sit back down, so we did. Having both come from customer service roles we were understanding, things happen. We continued to wait a further 15 mins, eventually someone asked us if we were paying by cash or card and then disappeared for a further 10 mins. On return we received no acknowledgement of the delay, simply a member of staff walked over with zero eye contact, holding out a card machine and said 70 euro ( no bill in hand) . That was it. I myself am a chef, and have some award-winning restaurants behind me, so I'm difficult to impress. But the food and service at Costa Mare impressed me! the steak was perfectly cooked and the serving was "Salt Bae" worthy. especially the sauce and the pumpkin puree were fantastic. if I have to write something negative, don't add balsamic glaze, it's not needed when the chef has made a great home cooked meal, and if the chef insists on it, pour it into a small bowl, not a store-bought bottle. But these are small things, and do not spoil the good experience.
