I’ve been staying in Kavos just shy of a week now and told myself that I had to go here, the outside was pretty, super aesthetic and classy considering I’m in Kavos. I stand corrected, when we first arrived we was seated straight away and given menus. When we asked the waiter if they had no/low alc beers she looked confused and just walked away, came back after and said no, so soft drinks were ordered. We also asked what the vegetarian options were and she couldn’t tell us yet again, walked away and came back a short while later
When we were ready to order, we had a completely different server, he took our food orders for starters, mains and desserts and one extra drink.
The drink we had ordered with the food took over half an hour to come, we had to ask the waitress again for the drink. The cold starters came up first, the bread being rock hard. When the halloumi I had ordered came out, it was another tables and mine was “cheese bites” which still took 40 minutes to come.
A larger party had come in, maybe 10 women who all ordered and had their mains and starters come out before our table (their food was still wrong)
After a longer wait, we had decided that we wanted to just pay for the food that we had eaten and the drinks we had and leave, we was hungry and didn’t wait to wait any longer. One of our main plates was brought out, taken to the larger party and ran around the restaurant before they listened to us when we said it was for our table.
The host (male) then started getting aggressive and shouting at our table, telling us not to talk to customers and that we wasn’t allowed to leave. Politely yet bluntly we asked to just pay for what we had consumed and he told us he’d call the police even though we’d told them we wanted to pay. He then proceeded to put his hands on my mother, and tell her to stop getting aggressive when he was towering down screaming at her.
Then was told to pay €25 euro in CASH ONLY before we was “allowed to leave”
Although this place is beautiful from the outside, it is a waste of time and effort. Please please please don’t be fooled by the pretty exterior and find somewhere that deserves your custom and will appreciate you...
Read moreSo here is the story!
We ordered a paella 🥘 and were expecting the emoji mentioned here and what we got in return was some mix of sea food and some rice next to it. I was immediately startled, because I know paella and I think everybody knows but when I mentioned to the lady, she said “it’s the same thing”
I showed her a picture from google and then she got pissed and took the food away saying “I will mix it all”.
We were like okay; but then decided to wait for what surprise comes our way. The end outcome was great food; should have been 5 star food if everything was great but the fact that they wanted to cheat us was sad.
In the end, while paying she asked “how was the food” and we said “it was great but what happened the first time”. No reply at that time; which means that she was definitely guilty inside.
For someone who manages people on a daily life as a job, it’s easy to spot people with poor integrity; and this restaurant felt like it.
The paella that came out after the whole confusion was decent. No complaints at all.
Response:
It’s not just about the food. It’s about the service and the “intent to cheat” tourists. You definitely topped in the “intent to cheat” while serving good food after some hassle and tensions. We definitely would have appreciated if you would said “it’s a mistake” the first time. Instead you just removed the octopus (which you said, that the dish doesn’t include while ordering) and tried to push us to have a sea food platter instead of a paella. We also asked you what happened, to give you an opportunity to come clean, but you did not want a confrontational conversation. So have to make other people who visit you aware of what they...
Read moreThe service in this Taverna/restaurant was the worse I have ever encountered in my 30+ years of coming to Greece! The person taking the orders approached the table (I later found out was the owner). I asked what type of cheese was used in the Saganaki cheese? The initial reply was Saganaki cheese, but this changed to Hulomi then a hard cheese. I replied not Graviera then to which I was told this was a soft cheese and anyone saying they could fry it was lying ! - odd that as the Cretans have been using it for years.
We placed order inc two main meals. The Saganaki arrived and I was again told it was Hulomi when clearly it wasn’t
My friends meal arrived and mine didn’t so I queried it having noticed other tables were suffering a similar fate. The owner then told me I hadn’t ordered and flashed his handwritten note in front of me to prove it ! I queried why I would only order a meal for one of us But this was dismissed in a very sarcastic tone. No offer of anything else was made and his attitude did not entice me to do so
When the bill came the waiter informed us they had taken off the water cost as a gesture. How nice ! Problem was we had not had any water so it was all a false gesture
I went to speak to the owner about the service and gave him feedback on his attitude. He informed me that if I had a better attitude, despite them messing up the order, then I would have received a more friendly reply ! I queried the water ‘con’ to which there was no reply. I paid in full not wishing to accept his gesture of not
Happily the remaining service and hospitality we received on Corfu was great but a shame this Taverna spoilt our first...
