Me and my husband stumbled across this place, not far from where we were staying. We had a very late dinner and we had the whole top terrace to ourselves which felt very special. The view was gorgeous with all the town lit up. It was a cold evening and we were offered blankets if we needed them. The service and food, omg it was the best! Such an attentive, genuine and warm waiter, prompt service and was happy to answer any questions we had. The food was surreal, we could have eaten our dishes over and over again. It was hands down the best meal we have eaten in Greece and anywhere in a long time. I think my husband was surprised he could keep me quiet for so long, as I was just focused on my meal. I had the Pork Belly dish, you have to try! The best pork belly I have ever eaten and my husband had the Beef Ribs. We also had dessert, which was gorgeous. The presentation was amazing and enticing. The wine was also very nice, I tried the semi sweet red wine, which I loved. The chefs have produced magic and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We want to say a massive thank you. Think we'll keep eating here for the duration...
Read moreThis place was highly recommended by some locals. Me and my partner got all excited about the food and decided to book a table straight away, through our hotel. We got a great spot at the corner of the roof top. And had a nice view over the sunset (8-8:30pm).
We decided to have a three-course-meal. Before ordering they served us some snacks (bread and dip) plus a small bottle of raki.
For starters I orders Tagiani (?) the chicken was good with a lot of flavours and a bit spicy. But I was shocked over the size of the portion and decided to leave half of it so that I could have some room for the main dish.
The lamb shank was really good, but I was surprised over the appearance of the dish, it was covered with french fries. My partner ordered Pork cheek which was really good too.
We didn't order any dessert. But got a complimentary from the restaurant, which was nice!
The staff were nice and polite, but it took 20-25 minutes before we...
Read moreWe visited a lot of different restaurants while in Santorini, and well over a year later, the experience at Cava Alta stands at the top of the pile in terms of memory. We discovered this place by accident while strolling through the streets of Pyrgos. A key feature of Cava Alta is the rooftop terrace. Being able to eat in the evening on a hot day, with a light breeze and panoramic views of the ocean (see the photo below, note my mediocre camera skills don't do it justice) and the town of Pyrgos as the sun sets, was the quintessential experience we were hoping for on Santorini. The food was simple, traditional and delicious. We chose a broad range of plates including Fava, pyrgos eggplant, stuffed peppers, kavourmas, squid, mushrooms and many others. Price wise, for the sheer amount of food we ate, this is a bargain. I'd come here again in...
