Occasus Solis — Restaurant in Municipality of Thira

Overall an underwhelming experience. I think the establishment is lovely and situated perfectly in town. However, the food and servixe was the most disappointinf part which spoiled our whole experience. As we were looking at the menu outside we were greeted by staff eventhough they were very busy that night so I can also apperciate the struggle. As we sat down, we were deciding on drinks which didnt take long and then deciding on food so not even 10minutes. After deciding we were just waiting to be served, after 10/15 minutes of waiting and seeing others who come in after us seated and some having their orders taken before us, this was the first sign of some poor service, foreshadowing the worst to come. 2 cocktails ordered a beer and water, from what I recall this was a bit of a wait for quite a simple order, and the first cocktails that were served to us was missing the passoa (so they were very weak - bascially just juice), they were orange in comparrison to the red ones then served to us (colour of passoa is red). The food mustve taken at least an hour and a half to two hours, and by this point the resturant was bascially empty and we’re past 10pm, so the table is extremely tired no amount of drinks could suffice this. About a half an hour from being served our food were we only then addressed about the wait and given the staffs apologises. It was a strange apology considering it come with the drinks order we made, it sounded like an excuse for their slow service in making us the previous round of drinks we had from our arrival order. I can understand the wait because the table ordered two meat platters which are made to serve two. However, if you cannot efficently make this dont have it on the menu. Upon arrival the food was barely warm, the chips were cold, and the warmest thing on the plate was the burgers which is the quickest meat to cook on the platter (against lamb and chicken for example). It was a shame because it did taste nice apart from the lamb which was tough and almost inedible and greasy pork belly (but that is by nature). We raised this with the waiter who asked us how our food is, our complaint was relayed back to the chefs and they said ‘I dont know why everythings just come off the grill’ - this practically had all of us in hysterics because it clearly wasnt. We were given complimentary cocktails upon our complaint which we throughouly appreciate, however excuses from the chef and blame shifted upon the live music at the square can just been seen through as poor service. Additionally, the live music blasted over the speakers the resturant had so we couldnt hear anything from them, not the resturants fault but a quite humming of a speaker when you have music all the way down the road should be addressed? Ingredients are clearly sourced with care, and everything tastes as if it was picked, caught, or baked that morning. The menu doesn’t overwhelm, but what it offers is executed flawlessly: grilled octopus that melts in your mouth, tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, and olive oil so fragrant and golden it deserves its own spotlight.

We went everywhere in Santorini and this is the only place we visited twice. Eva the owner was extremely nice and talkative and her employees, all family members, were very kind. They are a very generous, down-to-earth family and we enjoyed our interactions with them very much!

The food & drink were spectacular, everything tastes perfect and is priced very fairly, whereas dining in other places in Santorini can become very expensive very fast. The portions were large enough to quench your hunger but not too big as to make you feel heavy or leave uneaten parts.

The restaurant itself and the WC were immaculately clean. It's very neatly decorated and dining at sunset was a beautiful experience.

I would absolutely recommend Occasus Solis to anyone who visits Santorini, even if you don't happen to pass through the picturesque village of Pirgos. Wherever you stay in Santorini, I urge you to go and visit Occasus Solis, it's the best restaurant we went to in Santorini and I can definitely see myself coming back should I ever happen to visit again.
