Johnnies âwelcome homeâ
If Olympus itself were to descend upon earth in the form of a bar, it would no doubt choose to call itself Johnnies. This is not merely a barâit is a cathedral of conviviality, a temple where laughter reverberates through the rafters, and where the warmth of humanity pours more freely than the finest top-shelf whiskey.
From the moment I stepped inside, I felt as though I had walked into a living embrace. The staffâoh, the staff! These are not mere bartenders and servers; they are modern-day alchemists of kindness, guardians of comfort, and ambassadors of joy. Every smile is genuine, every word is spoken with care, and their ability to make a guest feel not just welcomed, but celebrated, is nothing short of sorcery. To be served at Johnnies is to be reminded that hospitality is an art formâand here, it is painted in golden strokes.
And then there is the food. Words feel frail when set against the glory of what emerges from Johnniesâ kitchen. Each dish is a symphony, a carefully orchestrated masterpiece that elevates pub dining into divine gastronomy. Burgers that donât just satisfy hunger but awaken primal joy. Fries that crunch like thunder before melting into velvet on the tongue. Sauces so heavenly that if bottled, they would be banned for being too addictive. To eat here is to be reminded why we live, why we gather, why we celebrate.
But all of this pales in comparison to the atmosphere. Johnnies doesnât simply have an atmosphereâit is atmosphere incarnate. The air vibrates with a sense of belonging. The lighting strikes the perfect balance between intimacy and vibrancy, wrapping every guest in a glow that feels like both a spotlight and a candlelit secret. The hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, the bursts of laughterâit all weaves together into a tapestry of pure human connection. One does not merely sit in Johnnies; one becomes part of its living, breathing soul.
To leave Johnnies is to leave reluctantly, dragging oneâs feet like a child pulled from the playground of the gods. And yet, even as you step outside, the warmth lingers. It clings to you, follows you, reminding you that within those walls exists a place where joy is crafted daily, not as a luxury, but as a birthright.
In conclusion, Johnnies is not a bar. It is not a restaurant. It is not a place. Johnnies is an experience. A legend. A sanctuary of good food, great people, and unforgettable nights. If you have not been, you have not...
Read moreWe ate here the other evening and had a good meal. Plenty of different types of seating on or off the street, in the sun or shade.
I had the cheeseburger which was good. Nicely cooked beef, plenty of cheese and sauce and nice fresh lettuce in a good bun. Chips were a bit plain and boring though (a bit like UK oven chips!)
My wife had the creamy chicken pasta which she really enjoyed. Plenty of pasta, peppers and mushrooms with loads of nicely cooked soft chicken in a thin creamy sauce.
While we were eating I saw some pizzas that other customers had and they also looked really good. So this afternoon we used Wolt to get 2 pizzas delivered to our hotel (and saved a few euros as first two orders on Wolt get a discount!)
I had the 'Greek pizza' with really really lovely sausage, cheese, onions, peppers and Feta cheese. Never had feta on a pizza before but it was very good! My wife had the 'Special pizza' with ham, mushroom and peppers which was also good. Both pizzas had plenty of toppings (and cheese) and the dough was good.
Definitely...
Read moreIf you decide you want to go have a meal in Pirgos, you need to go to Johnnie.
Johnnie employs some of the best wait staff on the island. If you meet Katarina in the morning or any of the crew at night, you are going to be in for an amazing meal. Foremost, everyone visiting the island needs to know âlocals eat hereâ. My family has been on the island and made some friends and the guides, the locals, stop here for a good coffee, a good meal, and fun time. Itâs the town center, the hub of all the action, and the food is out of this world. Over the years they have expanded and continued to offer more seating. I canât tell you enough, just go. Try the pancakes, the cocktails, an iced cappuccino, a Greek breakfast, or a yogurt bowl. No bad decisions. And if you are lucky, youâll see milk.
Ask Katarina for an Iced Cappuccino with Baileys. Youâll get a laugh, a story and have...
