King's Cafe — Restaurant in Municipality of Thira

We arrived late in kamari due to a flight delay,we ditched the bags at our hotel and made for the beach front in the search of food,Kings was the first place we came to, so we asked if we could get a takeaway pizza,it 10.30pm at this point and I'm thinking it's going to be a kitchen closed scenario ..however a friendly server told us absolutely take a seat inside whilst you wait. We decided to order a drink while we waited and started chatting to a lovely barman who's English was way better than my greek! Our pizza arrived but we'd still got drinks so a waiter brought out plates and napkins for us to eat it at the bar. As first nights go this was a fantastic start to our holiday,we also ate with Kings later in the week having seafood pasta and waffles for desert both beautifully cooked and presented, although I will say the waffles are huge portions and big enough to share,the staff gave us boxes to takeaway our leftovers,which I thought was a nice touch. Went because they had slow cooked belly pork on special of the day. Was promised so much but when we went in had to wait ages for the menu and drinks. Ordered the belly pork. They bought me tenderloin of pork stuffed with cheese and figs. It was so dry I couldn’t eat it. Told them it wasn’t what I ordered and they said it was their mistake and would change my meal but I couldn’t have belly pork as they didn’t have any! So what was that all about? I didn’t have anything as by then my partner had finished eating. They said they wouldn’t charge me for my meal they ignored us for the rest of the evening. Didn’t ask us if we wanted desserts or the free ouzo they offer. Very disappointed and when we saw the maitre de the next day he didn’t recognise us and tried to get us in again. We told him about our bad experience but wouldn’t accept responsibility for what happened. They are only interested in getting your money and not about your experiences. Sitting here at Kings cafe as I write. 1st full day on the island.. arrived 19/6/23. I'd seen the reviews on KC before we arrived and had starred it as a place to visit. Free sunbeds, table/sunbed service with a little buzzer to summon the attentive waiter. Mythos on draft in prechilled glasses! Comfy sunbeds with plenty of shelter from the blazing sun. Beach seems OK for swimmers as there are a few in the water. Usual black pebble beach. Beach shoes are a must. Burgers are huge!! Not the only place offering free beds but probably the nicest. The ONLY LITTLE thing is.. It's right under the flight path. But then, so is most of kamari Beach, to be honest. I've no doubt we'll be back. Expect £25+ pp for the whole day. That's...
