Meltemi — Restaurant in Paros Municipality

Terrible food and experience despite good overall reviews.

We got inside this restaurant to get shelter from the wind and because it was full, it looked good and had good reviews.

The first thing to arrive was the "beetroot salad", which was more of an IKEA experiment: beetroot, boiled green stuff and pickled cucumbers just sadly laying there like shy students waiting to get acquainted somehow. But anyway, at that point hopes were still up.

Then came the mains. Behold...

The 24 EUR fish soup was solemnly poured by the waiter, but it didn't change the fact that the tuna in the SOUP was raw (not "tataki" raw, "alive and regretting it's being cooked" raw), the broth was bland and dull and, to add insult to injury, lukewarm.

One of us got the aubergine stuffed with beef, BEEF BOMB they aptly call it, which indeed bombed on all levels: the beef seemed boiled and had no savour whatsoever and the aubergine was just there to cover the evidence. So let's observe a moment of silence for the poor beef that died in vain for our sins.

Next, the real red flag: the grilled calamari, which smelled like an urban garbage bin in mid July and was evidently foul. We called the waiter, who took his time to call the chef, who showed up sweating and assured us that it's a matter of recipe, albeit not being able to mention the ingredient that caused the foul smell. Now here's the thing, I've eaten so much calamari I might have endangered the species, and never had I felt such a horrible stench. Anyway, my man agreed not charge the calamari and apologetically offered an avocado salad (paid). Still, in the end the calamari showed up on the bill and we had to address the issue once more to get it fixed.

The highlight of the soiree was the owner actually telling us he's been running the restaurant for 40 years. Probably the same day he bought the calamari they served us.

*the local raki was on point. Like any good alcohol, it helps one...

We found Meltemi through a travel blog about Paros and thought we should try it as reviews where great. The restaurant is by the water in naoussa in a quieter area and is nicely decorated. Plenty of space to sit. Umbrella all done in good taste. Good Contemporary and traditional menu of grilled seafood(0ctopus), fish (the Seabass is nice) , fried feta(lile spring rolls) and fresh boiled houta(niceblocal greens) with olive oil and lemon. We also had the grilled octopus. Staff is attentive and fast.Meltemi is owned by a couple originally from Chania ,Crete who came to Paros 40 years ago. Maria's mother from Chania fell in love with an Italian soldier on manœuvres in Creta. Maria ND her husband came to our table to chat and shared their story with the whole family working with them. Αρχικά απέξω φαίνεται ένα πολύ καλά στημένο εστιατόριο, με προσωπικό, μπάρ ωραίο φωτισμό όμορφα πιάτα στα τραπέζια όταν περνάς από δίπλα, ωραία κοκτέιλ... Ο τέλειος συνδυασμός για ένα όμορφο βράδυ με τον σύντροφό σου, την παρέα ή την οικογένεια σου.

Η βραδιά ξεκίνησε με τις καλύτερες προθέσεις, επιτέλους ένα ωραίο ρομαντικό δείπνο σε ένα όμορφο εστιατόριο δίπλα στην θάλασσα, δυστυχώς όμως κατέληξε πολύ άσχημα και από φαβορί αποκλείστηκε στο 90 (έχοντας κάνει πολλά φάουλ από το πρώτο κιόλας λεπτό) παραθέτω λοιπόν.

20 λεπτά αναμονή ενώ έχουμε ήδη αποφασίσει τι θα πάρουμε όλοι οι σερβιτόροι άφαντοι, μια σερβιτόρα μικρή να φέρνει άσκοπες βόλτες, στο δίπλα τραπέζι 2 φορές σε διάστημα 30 λεπτών αποχώρησαν με νεύρα διότι κανείς δεν ενδιαφέρθηκε να πάρει παραγγελία, έστω 1 νερό ή ένα μενού, ένα κοκτέιλ.... Θα έπινα άνετα 2-3 κοκτέιλ μέχρι να μας πάρει παραγγελία κι ας έκανε και μια ώρα , αλλά κανείς δεν ενδιαφέρθηκε, χωρίς πίεση πελατείας, πήραν επίσης παραγγελία σχεδόν αμέσως σε άλλα 2 τραπέζια παραδίπλα ενώ είμαστε εκεί ήδη 20λεπτα+ χωρίς ένα ποτήρι νερό. Ήδη είχε αρχίσει να χάνετε η υπομονή μας και πάνω που είμαστε έτοιμοι κι εμείς να φύγουμε, επιτέλους ήρθε ο σερβιτόρος.

Νόστιμα πιάτα και σχετικά γρήγορα όπως προείπαμε είναι καλά στημένο το μαγαζί αλλά θέλει πολύ δουλειά και καλύτερο προσωπικό για να φτάσει εκεί.

Ενα πιάτο ,μια μερίδα καλαμάρια που δεν ήρθε ποτέ, το φανταστήκαμε ότι πήγε κάπου αλλού και ότι θα είναι στο λογαριασμό κι όταν ήρθε δεν μπορούσαμε να καταλάβουμε ήταν ή δεν ήταν διότι η απόδειξη ναι μεν ήταν νόμιμη και εφορίας από μηχανισμό αλλά όχι αναλυτικά να δούμε εάν έχει έρθει ή όχι το πιάτο και αν είναι αυτά που παραγγείλαμε.

Που και πάλι δεν ήταν τόσο τραγικό λάθος, εννοείτε δεν τρέχει τίποτα το είπαμε στον σερβιτόρο και μας παρέθεσε στον ιδιοκτήτη που ο οποίος έγινε αγενής σα να ήμαστε τίποτα τρίτο-τέταρτοι, εντάξει παιδιά, συγνώμη για τα καλαμάρια στα πεταχτά σα να του χρωστάμε κιόλας.

Επίσης νωρίτερα ενώ θέλουμε να ρωτήσουμε για το πιατο που λείπει κανείς δεν μας κοιτάει. καθόλου επαγγελματισμός γενικότερα.

Παραδίπλα ζητούσε συγνώμη από έναν κύριο αργότερα,γύρο στα 50, αφιέρωσε χρόνο να πιούνε μαζί και να του εξηγήσει για τον χαμό που είχε το μαγαζί του κι ότι αρρώστησε ο καλός σερβιτόρος που είχε κτλπ... Πολύ λάθος αντιμετώπιση, όλοι οι πελάτες κανονικά σε ένα τέτοιο επίπεδο που θέλετε να προβάλετε το μαγαζί σας πρέπει να τους φέρεστε σαν καλεσμένους και εσείς να είστε ο οικοδεσπότης. Σε μια άλλη φάση έπαιρνε παραγγελία από κάτι κορίτσια και σταμάτησε να μιλήσει με κάτι γνωστούς του ( το είδα στο βλέμμα τους να λένε τι κάνει ???!)

Δεν είναι προσωπική επίθεση αλλά φερθηκατε με αγένεια κι όταν θέλετε να προβάλετε κάτι ως "Χάι κλαςς" πρέπει να φέρεστε και ανάλογα. Κακή εμπειρία, ίσως κάποια άλλη στιγμή να ήταν διαφορετικά, αλλά στην προκειμένη όχι δεν προτείνεται. Περάσαμε απαίσιο βράδυ...
