Once again, this review is based on my own personal experience and opinion and may differ from others.
From the moment you are shown to a table to the moment you leave this eatery, I found the staff at Artima to be efficient, professional and extremely pleasant.
The menu was varied but definitely caters for those looking for the home-cooked “Greek dish” experience.
We started with a melody of fresh, warm, homemade bread served with a selection of olives, couscous and olive oil with balsamic vinegar. For me, the choice of dips (though tasty) needs reassessing/rethinking, as not all people like olives or couscous … maybe some tzatziki, a garlic dip and a tomato dip might be more favourable?
Our main meals - a beef stifado and a lamb kleftico - were perfectly cooked, well presented and extremely tasty. The meat in both dishes was beautifully tender and melted in the mouth.
With the meal, we had a half litre of rose wine which was very palatable and reasonably priced.
Artima is a very clean establishment, set in a quiet area just off Papadiamantis Street, and offers a very relaxed, unhurried atmosphere.
Whilst the prices were fairly standard for the quality of the food served, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of if you are dining out on a budget. Firstly, the bottle of still water supplied was €3.50 (1 ltr )whilst a small bottle of Sprite was €4 … prices far in excess of other restaurants. Secondly, should you (like me) enjoy a coffee at the end of your meal, this can be €5 a serving. So, for example, if you are a couple you could easily add an extra €15-20 to your bill just for water, a soft drink and coffee.
However - and despite the latter - I would highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly be...
Read moreArtima Tonight we went back to Artima a place where we enjoyed a meal a couple of years ago. But oh how things have changed. This was very disappointing to say the least and the customer service was shocking. It all started friendly enough then the starters arrived. The mushroom croquettes came with an apple jam and beetroot which was way too sweet and killed the flavour of the mushroom. The aubergine look like a plate of aubergine cream. Then the mains arrived and the pork belly was sweet and my octopus was so sweet I couldn’t eat it all. When we tried to give the manager some polite constructive feedback he just seemed to think we wanted some money off but this was not the case. We just wanted to tell him what we thought but he really wasn’t interested. He just kept saying let me get you a limoncello on the house. The owner didn’t come anywhere near us at all. So they really don’t care and can’t take any criticism or advice you may want to give. Therefore I will definitely NOT recommend a visit here. Apparently since our last visit the restaurant has a new chef and owner. Clearly...
Read moreLocated on a side street, just slightly off of the main tourist sector, and that is a great thing! A host is out front to greet potential patrons, but there’s none of the soliciting or pushiness of the places along the waterfront.
The food is beautifully presented and exceptionally delicious. I couldn’t resist trying zucchini carpaccio, and it didn’t disappoint. I’ll try to recreate when I get home! The fish was fresh, flavors were sublime, and my daughter enjoyed the pork belly entree. Service was friendly and swift. Atmosphere is lovely, and the plates are so pretty! Highly recommend this spot! Several vegan options, and they were willing to accommodate my...
