Gyroland — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

If i could give a nickname to the restaurant it would be “tourist trap”.

A normal “Pita Gyros” in greece costs normally from 3.20 to 4.50€. Gyroland charges 5.50€, for a pita gyro that is “small” in size. Mind you, pita gyro sizes is and has never been a thing in greece. Now if you want a bigger pita gyro, you can always upgrade to the “medium size”, which costs 8€, and is slightly bigger than a normal sized pita gyro (like the ones you can get across the street, which cost around 4€).

And it doesn’t just stop there. Prices are way much higher than normal for loads of things too. The only thing that felt “normally priced” were the salads, but i changed my mind when i saw how small the portions were.

On the first image you can see my “Pita Club with Gyro”, that by the way costed 14.5€. It literally had a single piece of gyro on each bite. Portions felt stingy for the price.

-Servicewise

The moment we got in the restaurant it felt like we were ghosts. As if service was nonexistent. We finally got to sit at a table, and they brought us menus. I suddenly started hearing loud voices from inside the kitchen. It was the owner of the shop. We were there for a full hour. He didn’t stop shouting for a single minute. It’s not like he was cursing, but the way he so disrespectfully shouting the orders at staff and kept telling them “nowww, QUICK!”. It made the atmosphere really tense and uncomfortable.

We got our salad first, about 15 minutes after we had ordered. Rest of the food 9 minutes later. Not bad but not good for a gyro place.

I went to the bathroom, got out, and then suddenly noticed there was no soap. I checked all the toilets, including the ones for people with special needs. I asked the owner of the shop if he could give me some soap in order to wash my hands, he said “check the other toilets”, i said “i’ve already done that”. And he was like: “well okay i’ll put soap later”, in a really “i don’t care” type of way.

Food was tasty. But do you really care how the food tastes after...

Located on a bustling street corner, Gyro Land offers Mediterranean cuisine but unfortunately fell short during our visit.

The atmosphere is unremarkable, with simple decor that lacks warmth.

Service was disappointing. We waited a long time to order, and when our food arrived, it was clear the staff was overwhelmed, confused and inattentive, contributing to our frustration.

Simply waiting for the bill took 15 mins !!!

We tried several dishes, including the halloumi gyro and chicken gyro, both of which were bland. The chicken souvlaki was similarly lacking in flavor. However, the kids' nuggets were a hit, and the Nutella crepes were the highlight—deliciously indulgent and satisfying.

Given the quality of food and service, Gyro Land doesn’t offer good value. While the crepes were enjoyable, the overall experience felt disappointing.

Voor iedereen die deze recensie leest en erover nadenkt om Gyroland te bezoeken: twijfel niet langer en ga hierheen! Ik zal je uitgebreid vertellen waarom. En voor de mede-Nederlanders deze plek geeft je echt waard voor je geld. Je eet hier voor de beste prijs van het eiland eten van super kwaliteit (zie foto’s!).

Wij hebben deze parel ontdekt op de eerste dag van onze vakantie en het is voor ons moeilijk deze zaak niet iedere dag te bezoeken, want geloof me: hier komen we het liefst iedere dag. Voor lunch of avondeten, of allebei(!). Dit is echt een fantastische plek.

Wij hebben hier inmiddels al een stuk of 8 keer gegeten en zijn hier voorlopig nog een tijdje op vakantie en ze zullen ons tot op de laatste dag blijven zien. Ik denk oprecht dat we bijna alles van de kaart geprobeerd hebben na onze vakantie. De gyros pita’s met sweet chili toegevoegd zijn echt onze favoriet. Echt oprecht: alle ingrediënten zijn vers, de tzatziki is echt nergens zo lekker als hier en de pita’s zijn mega goed gevuld. Je hebt ook platters for 1 en to share. Deze zijn fantastisch en je krijgt echt een mega grote plaat waar je echt moeite voor moet doen om het op te krijgen. De burgers zijn ook echt fantastisch. Oprecht de beste burgers die we ooit gegeten hebben. Probeer in het bijzonder de Daddy Burger! En ga hier niet weg zonder dessert. Ze maken verse wafels en crêpes en maken zelfgemaakt (!!) ijs en hebben een eigen ijsmakerij van originele Italiaanse machines. En dit is te proeven!

Daarnaast is het restaurant super goed georganiseerd. Het personeel heeft duidelijk ieder eigen taken waardoor het super goed loopt en ze het altijd heel goed door hebben als je iets wilt bestellen of een vraag hebt of service nodig hebt. Aan al het personeel kan je merken dat ze het oprecht leuk vinden om er te werken. Iedereen gaat leuk met elkaar om en ze helpen elkaar onderling. Dat is leuk om te zien. En ze zijn super vriendelijk tegen alle klanten en hebben altijd een glimlach op hun gezicht. Ook is de zaak super hygiënisch. Hier zijn ze heel alert op. Alles is schoon en wordt ook goed schoon gehouden. Het restaurant is ook super modern aangekleed en ik denk een van de weinige restaurants die er zo modern en goed uitziet in Zakynthos. De wc is ook de schoonste wc van het eiland en wordt ook goed schoongehouden. Echt fantastisch!

Je krijgt bij Gyroland ook echt gigantisch veel voor weinig geld. Nergens op het hele eiland heb ik een beter restaurant gevonden en wij zijn hier eerder geweest en hebben veel gezien. Ik ben er oprecht van overtuigd dat de mensen die een slechte recensie schrijven over Gyroland, er niet geweest zijn.

Dus!!!! Ga hierheen, je krijgt er geen spijt van. Ze hebben zoveel te bieden dat het enige wat lastig is, keuzes maken is. Het liefst geef ik deze plek 10 sterren, dat is wat...
