The best restaurant in Tsilivi! A must!
We were very kindly recommended to try The Halfway House by the chef from another restaurant we had eaten at in Tsilivi on the previous night. We said that we were foodies & looking for an authentic high quality meal using local ingredients. We got exactly this and more! From the moment we read the menu & the engaging yet humble story of this beautiful family run restaurant we could feel The Halfway House was a cut above other restaurants in Tsilivi. We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes & each individual member of staff, could not do enough to make us feel welcome (shout out to Ellie, who went that extra mile, she is a key member of the team & we are grateful to her for her warm welcome). We also had the opportunity to chat with Tim, one of the family & he explained their passion for great food, hospitality and the use of locally sourced ingredients. Food wise we had the garlic prawns & chicken spring rolls with home-made Chili jam to start. Both dishes were stand out! Juicy succulent prawns & the garlic sauce bursting with flour. The spring rolls were crispy, light & the chilli jam delicious. For main course we had Osso Buco & the honey glazed pork. The Osso Buco just melted in the mouth & the quality of meat was outstanding. The pork was succulent & the locally sourced honey used in the glaze was insanely delicious! I could eat it again right now! For dessert we shared the desert of the day, “Frigania”. This is a traditional Zakinthos dish, consisting of a sponge base & a light creamy top with toasted almonds & sour cherries. We had this dish in a couple of other restaurants, however The Halfway House recipe (made that day by no other than Tim’s Mother!) Was outstanding! You could taste the love & care that went into making this dish. All of this was washed down with the best cocktails we had all holiday & a lovely local white wine. A very big thanks to Tim & the whole Halfway House family for a truly memorable evening, both food & hospitality wise. We look forward to visiting you next time we are in the beautiful Island of Zakinthos. Gemma, Graham & Chris...
Read moreWe have just spent a week in Tsilivi - our first time there - but over the years we have spent countless holidays in Greece across the islands
On every holiday we eat out regularly, always trying a different place each night where we can and this one was no different. The choice in Tsilivi as a whole is fantastic - too much for just 1 week really - so this wasn't an issue for us. However, after finding Halfway House on TripAdvisor and seeing it was the #1 rated in the area we had to give it a go. We did - it was incredible - and so we just couldn't resist a 2nd visit on our last night :)
Incredible is an understatement really when it comes to here. Greek food never fails to disappoint no matter where you eat it in Greece, but Halfway House pushes it to the next level. This is a proper restaurant with an extensive and impressive wine list (most of which is Zakynthian) that really would not be out of place in the centre of London. The service is impeccable and the food, well, on both occasions it left us speechless. Seriously impressive - freshly cooked Greek and Mediterranean food but done so, so well. The homemade lemon meringue pie and orange pie (see picture) is an absolute must!
Personally, given the quality of food and wine, I think Halfway House is excellent value for money and worth every cent. Yes, it is slightly more expensive than a place up on the main strip or in the centre of Tsilivi, but it really will not break the bank and you simply will not find food like this anywhere else in the area - I dare say on the island as a whole
If you appreciate good food, good wine and are excited by proper Greek food then this place is a must visit whilst in Tsilivi. Be sure to book in advance on their website to avoid disappointment - it's unsurprisingly very popular!
Thanks to all the staff and management of Halfway House. You have a really special place there - never let it go. We...
Read moreI’m just throwing another 5 star at the already solid review that Halfway House has on google. We actually looked it up on trip advisor and found that it was the second best restaurant on the island! They definitely live up to the rating and surpass it! I tried to figure out what made the experience so wonderful and I chalk it up to the people that work there. It felt as if the whole wait staff were waiting on us! They were supreme, efficient, engaging, and kind. The menu had fantastic options and we got tzatziki with pita bread as an appetizer. My wife got a delicious spaghetti pasta that has the most delicious unique flavor that was perfect and I had the sea bass grilled to perfection with a side of cheesy potatoes. We rounded it out with their finely crafted and hearty lemon meringue pie which was unbelievably flavorful. I got a Mythos beer and my wife got a grapefruit gin drink. It was patio seating which worked perfectly on such a great evening. The vibe was so awesome there. Seemed nicely upscale while not being pretentious. We didn’t make a reservation and had gotten there around 6:30pm before the crowd so they fit us in easily. We left as it got very busy and we were beyond thankful for our...
