Right away, the service was not good. The waitress was obviously hating everything and everyone, with a big frown and no smile no matter how many “thank yous” and smiles we gave her. Then, I ordered beef tacos (the only option for tacos). When they arrived, they were chicken, but not even a quality piece of chicken. They were hard, sinewy odds and ends like they chose to give me whatever was left of the chicken’s feet or face or I don’t even know what. It was really bad. And the sauce it’s supposed to come with, it didn’t have either. Then I asked them what meat they used for my order of beef tacos, and they plainly told me chicken… I showed them the plate which I couldn’t even eat because it was so awful. They weren’t sorry. They made me pay for it anyway (which is fine, even though I couldn’t eat it and it wasn’t even what I ordered). But THEN, they tried to overcharge me. They added 40 quetzals into my bill hoping I wouldn’t notice. When I showed them the correct price, they just said “oh ok. Yeah that is the right price. Read moreWhile in San Marcos, Lake Atitlan, I came across Comedor Casa Juanita. Because of sentimental reasons, Juanita, being my mom’s name, I made my way to this restaurant to give it a try. The Juanita, who owns and runs this restaurant, lived up to the warmth and wonderful cooking I associate with the name. The food was very flavourful and fresh, and the view! The view was exceptional of St.Pedro Volcano and the lake. Juanita was gracious enough to pose for a photo with me, and her, and her husband joined me after I finished my meal. My Spanish isn’t that great but they were both so patient with me as I fumbled my way through. I cannot say enough good things about this experience, when you are in San Marcos, make your way to this restaurant and...
Read moreFantastic!!! Local Homemade food. Owned by a local native. Just like the other reviews said, when you walk in just ask her what is available she’ll tell you what dishes are available to eat. I paid 55 Guatemalan dollars each meal (large meal with homemade tortillas) which is 7.02 US dollars as of today. She does not have alcohol or beer but she will allow you to bring your own. She has two balconies that are small but have beautiful views of the lake. don’t expect anything fancy from this place, it’s as if you’re receiving a homemade meal from someone’s house. Everything was fresh it was delicious I would...
