It’s definitely a budget stay. We stayed in one of the dorms and got to see the two options they have. On first glance, they didn’t look super comfortable or clean. The 8 bed one was really loud next to the road, but I was warned regarding the noise. The beds are pretty hard and bedding appears and smells clean, but still just doesn’t feel clean because of the woven fabric and cheap thread-count. Almost feels like your on bare mattress and pillows. Still, there is a really nice hangout area that’s super clean and comfy & the staff is friendly. The shared bathrooms are a little gross (found a bandaid and shaved hairs sitting on the bench) but may have been just that day. The free breakfast was also great, and the location is beach front, and somewhat easy to get to since San Marcos is so small—it’s easier to take the beach path then google’s directions from the boat taxi dock. But before saying negative points, I want to thank the cleaning team for keeping rooms cleaned and for being welcoming and polite!
About bad things first, photos on booking doesn’t show the reality, since the majority of Photos are related to private rooms, not shared rooms. Mattresses are made of foam and extremally unconfortable! There is no lockers to put bags and personal items.
If you really need to use the bathroom and it is occupied, so sorry, you will have to wait because there is only ONE TOILET! And this one toilet has broken lid.
Most of Volunteers doesn’t know to speak spanish or don’t even try to!

Read moreI actually liked the hostel but had some big trouble with the check out. The night before checking out I asked at the reception if I would be able to check out earlier than 7:30 (that’s when the reception usually opens) because I had a shuttle at 7:15. I got reassured that it wouldn’t be an issue. Next morning I tried to check out and no one was at the reception. I had to leave the key on the counter and couldn’t get my deposit back. While being on the shuttle I directly sent them an email explaining the issue with the check out and asking if there is a way to get my deposit of 100 quetzales back. That was 10 days ago. I didn’t get any response, not even an apology for the issues, which I would have appreciated even if there wouldn’t be a way to get my...
