After spending a night in a private room in a hostel, I was ready to find a more peaceful atmosphere and went to Bosque. Very happy I did.||I found the bed Very comfortable, wayyyy quieter than the comings and goings of the young hostel crowd, and the rooms large, with nice decor. For me, single female mid 40's traveler, this was perfect.||||Nice garden area to sit, hammock chairs and other chairs for use, a patio/restaurant area that is only open part of the year. ||||Past posters complaining about wifi and no breakfast included? This is Guatemala folks, get with the program. Take things as they come and roll with it. No One will kiss your butt here, but your own smile goes a long way ;) ||||Wifi would work best closer to the router, so ask for that room (#1 I belive), with room 3 being the quietest nad farthest. I had the middle room 2, the wifi did work better sitting just outside the room, but did still work in the room. No, you wont be watching Netflix on it. ||||The path behind this place is not a high traffic path, and three are no restaurants near, most of the people in San Marcos are not there to party. (Go to San Pedro for your late nights.) ||||I liked the place a lot, and will go back. Free eco-filtered water, shower was not the best, but again it was very typical Guate style. ||||This place would be great for families. I am not a kid-person..butttt the rooms have a fun upper loft bed, and a nice safe environment for kids, as well as a local family with kids on the premise...
Read moreIf you want to feel close to nature and to get as far away as possible from the stress of a hurried life in a large city, you will love this place! Bosque Encantado is located within a few hundred feet from the lakeshore, in a maze of narrow foot paths (no cars may go near the hotel, as the largest vehicle that will fit is a bicycle.) It is across the "street" from a coffee plantation, and is surrounded by lots of different plants and trees. I was awakened by birds singing, and when I spent some time sitting in the garden hammock, I saw at least 6 different species of birds, which I found delightful. The rooms are rustic but comfortable. Two of my grown children slept on the upper floor/balcony, basically on a mattress on the floor, but found it very comfortable. Terry, the owner, is very nice and will give you lots of helpful tips. The staff are attentive and helpful also, though you should know that the pace of life in this town is much slower than you may be used to, so expect things to take time. The room included breakfast, which was nice. They do not serve other meals, but very good, affordable restaurants are just around the corner. There was a little noise coming from a construction site next door that is nearly finished, but that did...
Read moreA friend and I stayed here for 2 nights while backpacking through Guatemala. ||||We checked a fancier place first but they didn't have a room with two beds and the price was high (over $100 per night). El Bosque was arpund $40 per night and had a room that suited out needs. ||||The rooms are basic and rustic. The decore is simple. Wood bed frames, stone counters, and running water. The shower has a huge barrel with water in case the water doesn't run. We didnt have that problem but the shower head wasn't quite working the first night so we had awkward showers. We didn't care much so we didn't ask for it to be fixed until the next day. It was repaired by the time we returned to the room later that day.||||At night red ants walk through the bathroom and sometimes in and out under the front door. We weren't too concerned but we kept our shoes on.||||The food at El Bosque was amazing. All food in San Marcos was fantastic. The prices at El Bosque were reasonable. ||||San Maros was my favourite destination, though everywhere we went was great and diverse. ||||*there isn't a bank in San Marcos so make sure you bring enough cash or you will have to take the boat across to San Pedro. I think the boat ride is...
