Ok so here we go again into the iffy feeling on whether or not to try this place one more time. The first time I came here I didn’t bother writing a review because I was thoroughly displeased, disappointed, and a little disgusted at the level of cleanliness of the restaurant to the point where I ordered and had a bite and refused to eat more. Everything was caked in grease. They had carpet runners going from the front of the house to the inside rows of the dining room cause god forbid you stepped off the runners there would be a major slippage action happening. The walls were a different shade of dull brownish white and the tables and utensils??? Need I mention the bathrooms... I would’ve been able to place a bet on anybody in the bathroom to be able to P standing up without their feet hitting the walls for support, talk about ice rink. Even though it was a hazard to step off the rug I decided to step in to see how the food actually was and put the horrid thoughts aside but when I walked in my jaw hit the ground… Spotless! Since I’ve last been here about three years ago they had had a renovation which left the place looking bright and open instead of dark and greasy. Now you could actually see the walls and the tile underneath the film of grease. There is only a single runner to wipe your feet on the way in instead of a bandaid to a bigger problem. And guess what, you guessed it, no more ice rink. I guess all betts are off for the bathroom because even those are spotless. In shock, I couldn’t stop telling the waiter that the restaurant looked very nice even though it’s just a mediocre restaurant yet extremely authentic. I ordered a paper thin dosa with Lam, which to my surprise was bigger than my arm. The food tasted authentically superb. I knew after trying the restaurant for the second time there was only one thing left to do which was to step out of retirement in writing reviews to starting up to this wonderful experience and change what was once a no star to a five star. If you want to try some authentic doses that are very close to home to the South Asians, I highly recommend this restaurant. Don’t forget to try their lasi as they are pretty tasty As for always, Bom appetite and Happy eating!

After hearing many recommendations to this place, I am thoroughly DISAPPOINTED with its service. Perhaps they were having an off day? First case: my friend was trying to order 2 of the parathas with chicken, but what seemed to be the manager kept getting it wrong thinking it was the one with egg, which is $4 MORE. Ultimately, despite the fact my friend pointed at the menu of what she wanted twice, and had to clarify herself 2 times, the manager inputted the wrong dish that wasn’t even on the physical menu she was pointing at. She ended up having to pay for the MORE EXPENSIVE, WRONG DISH. The manager did gave her one plain parantha… but was it worth it? It costs them probs $0.25, which is much less than the $4 upcharge they scammed for forcing her with the wrong dish. The other instance that was frustrating was when we were trying to pay, I was telling the server “no, we don’t want to SPLIT, we want to pay our SEPARATE items”. I even pointed at my item I order trying to explain that I will be paying only for it. I see that she was inputting the 50-50 split amount in the machine and tried explaining further, when she kept telling me“one moment” with her finger point up. Ultimately, after saying “one moment” 3-4 times, she indeed misunderstood, and had to ask the manager for help. At least they filled our water up often. To which, I am giving 2 stars for service. I feel bad for leaving a negative review, but truly that was the experience we had - negative. They clearly were unable to listen to us, and were too eager to talk over us with the wrong order, or wrong info. Perhaps I will give this another shot as the food was good enough for the price… one day.

Almost everything seems expensive these days and good value is very hard to find. There's one deal though that's been around for a long time and still offers very good value; that deal is the Dosa Monday special at House of Dosas . Every Monday, for just $5.99 you can get yourself a delicious and filling meal of Dosa. There are plenty of flavours to choose from, so you're bound to find something that will appeal to you! It had been a few years since we last visited this restaurant. Admittedly, the amount of filling inside the Dosa is much smaller now. It was always way more than we needed anyways though. Even with the reduced amount of filling, we still left this restaurant feeling very full and satisfied. If you want to be extra sure that you leave with a full tummy, you can take some of the money saved from the $5.99 dosa and put it towards ordering a few appetizers. We ordered some Fish Pakora and Gobi 65 as a prelude to our yummy dosa meals. Both of these appetizers were delightful! The $5.99 dosa special is the most well known and sought after deal at this restaurant, but they do have other daily specials for the different days of the week. Highly recommend this place! Service: Good Parking: Free parking on the street Location: 1391 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC

Pretty good place for quality South Indian food, but this location specifically is starting to show its age. The fact that it's open 24 hours is a huge bonus though! I've ordered several items from here and gotten delivery a few times, and the quality of the food is usually very good. On my most recent visit, I ordered a Mysore Masala Dosa and a masala chai. The Mysore Masala Dosa was delicious and the portion size was very reasonable. The masala chai on the other hand was just okay, but I make my own chai at home so I'm a little spoiled. They also have specials and deals, so you can often pay a lot less than the price on the menu. The service was fine but nothing special. The ambience is the weakness of this location. This is the original spot and hasn't really been renovated, so the decoration and seating is quite plain. The bathroom experience leaves something to be desired. The fittings were very basic, the bathroom was fairly cramped, and some things looked like they were damaged. There was also some graffiti. It was an acceptable experience but I'd prefer not to use the bathroom if I could help it. Bathroom: 4.5/10 My overall experience was good and I'd come back again, but I'd be less willing to come on a day without any deals.

House of Dosas is a delightful spot for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine in Vancouver. Located at the corner of Kingsway and Knight, this restaurant offers a wide variety of dosas and other South Indian dishes that are both delicious and reasonably priced. The food is the highlight here, with a taste and quality that are very good. On Mondays, they offer a special deal with dosas priced at just $6, which is a fantastic value. The portions could be a bit larger. The restaurant serves halal meat, but they also sell alcohol. The service is generally good, with friendly and helpful staff. However, be prepared for a bit of a wait during peak hours. Despite these minor hiccups, the overall dining experience is positive, and the food is worth the wait! The atmosphere is casual, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. The restaurant is open late, which is perfect for those late-night cravings. Parking can be a bit of a pain due to the major intersection and the bus stop right in front of the entrance. However, there is free parking available in the back alley and two hours of free street parking in front of the restaurant, just past the bus stop.

I was here the other day for lunch and I had the whole place to myself, which was a shame because the food was really good, but it being a weekday (and not the famous Monday) with parking a bit of a challenge etc. I had the chicken, Vege dosa and it was really really good. The cook/owner(?) wasn’t keen on me taking a picture of the kitchen, even though from what I could see it was very clean and correct. The waitress did not want her picture taken and I respect that and so I will not post it although she was very friendly. I would give this place 4.5 stars For the simple reason of the state of the menu, being disfigured, retry handed back to the server with that page open, and she did not acknowledge or put it aside to remove/repair that page. (Maybe I am just a bit of a nit picker but the first thing you see when you order in a restaurant is the menu and if it’s been bastardized, it is not conducive for good appetite). But again, the food was very well made and very tasty. This perfectly served the double purpose of wasting an hour before my appointment at the passport office and feeding one hungry camper.
