Overall an okay experience. I was merely passing through Budapest Keleti and had about an hour of layover until my next train and this restaurant seems to be made exactly for these kinds of situations.

The entrance is a bit shady (you need to descend a flight of stairs underground), but once you enter the restaurant proper the staff is very friendly and quick.

I was a bit afraid this was going to be a tourist trap with inflated prices, but I ended up pleasantly surprised. The prices are very much on the cheap side for cental Budapest. I paid 4100 Ft for a stew, salad and beer, which is quite good value. The downside is that the food is not of particularly good quality. It reminds me more of a factory/school canteen than a restaurant, a proper old school socialist eatery. Once again though I'd like to stress that for the price and quality of service, that's perfectly fair, just don't expect a fine dining experience.

Basically if you're ever at Budapest Keleti on a rainy autumn afternoon, with an hour or a half until your next connection and you want to sit down somewhere warm and eat a proper meal before boarding the night train, this restaurant was made for you. If you have more time and a desire for proper Hungarian cuisine, maybe...

Amazing traditional Hungarian restaurant down in the cellar. They also serve a daily lunch menu option, but you have to get there before 1:30 pm to get it. The food is fresh, and the servers are friendly. Location near the train station.
