Upon my third visit to Budapest I wanted my first stop to be the central market. I was with my parents and figured that would be a good place to start. The market was closed so we headed up varnhaz korut and found Pesti.
We sat down in the back and a waiter came over to take care of us. The food here is very good with all of your typical Hungarian staples; Jokai bableves, gulyasleves, hortobagyi palacsinta, etc... Everything was very fresh and tasted like the owner had his Hungarian grandmother cooking up plates of food for everyone.

They didn‘t get us a plastic fork or a knive, so we asked if we can get plastic dishes but they said no. We said we can‘t eat that with our hands, it‘s soaked in sauce. We then asked politely if we can eat it in the restaurant then and as I was walking to get a fork and a knive that were placed on a table, they told us to go and shouted we can‘t eat out of a box in a restaurant. Read moreIt seemed like it could potentially be a tourist trap with the location so close to the Central Market, but I thought it was great. It was super cozy, so perfect for a freezing December day. I have no idea how authentic the Hungarian dishes are, but I found the food to be delicious and the combinations of food and cuisine to be things I had never tried.
The goulash was great, and the egg-based dumplings were great as well. The Hungarian house red wine was good and the prices decent.
