After searching for the best wood fired pizza in Budapest, we stumbled across MANU+. If you're not a local, it can be tricky to find as it's tucked away in a courtyard between some building, but it definitely worth it. We were lucky enough to find a table for two right in front of the pizza oven so we could watch the magic happen. We took a few moments to eye up the menu, but the line was out the door the entire time. They move very quickly taking everyone's orders, both dine in and takeout. They are like a well oiled machine (think Chick-Fil-A drive through in the states!)
We ordered a #3 (Cotta) and a #7 (Paprika János). Even though boxes and dine in orders were stacked up tall, the gentleman at the counter taking orders kept everything running smoothly in the order it was placed. Our pizzas took a total of 3 minutes from start to finish, and when they arrived on our table we were both in heaven. The crust was thin, yet had great texture and char. We definitely intend on coming back here again maybe for lunch!
They operate until they run out of dough, which funny enough we stopped lastnight for a quick bite around 8:15pm and they were sold out (close at 9pm) so don't hesitate. If you're wanting a delicious pie, get there before...
Read moreI remember coming here when this place wasn't as well known yet and the original MANU near Kálvin was still the more established one.
The quality of service and food hasn't changed a bit, props to the guys. Always friendly back then and they continue to be nice at least, even when the atmosphere feels like a pressure cooker from the infinite queue and lack of seating during the dinner hours of 6-8pm. Hope you guys find a solution to expanding the space, nowadays it can get quite uncomfortable and stressful to come here in the evening, from people constantly circling around you like vultures while you're trying to enjoy your food.
Which is still super tasty and good value by the way. Can't go wrong with good quality ingredients and a nice crust, you guys really perfected your recipes. My current fave is the Laska, love the truffle oil & mushroom combo.
I completely understand why this place became so enormously popular, but the atmosphere has started to suffer from it. Victims of your own success :^) It must be overwhelming at times to keep up with the towering orders. Makes me appreciate the steady quality of food and service...
Read moreThe pizza dough is Neapolitan style, but the toppings are poor quality, they are poorly cooked, the tomato sauce is sour, everything is seasoned with garlic, it has nothing to do with Italian fresh pizzas. The staff is hipster, arrogant, unhelpful, the place is run down, not renovated at all (maybe tourists do not recognize the ex sovjet atmosphere), there is no soap in the bathrooms, even though you can only eat with your hands, because there is no cutlery at all, even if you ask it. The atmosphere of the place is similar to an abandoned subway station between the bins and a few retro italian posters will not make the change. Usually backpacker tourists and young students visit the place, because it is slightly cheaper than other pizza places in the center. If you are looking for cool Italian pizzeria in the downtown there are way better places, even in the hipster or fast-food...
