This is the first time I don't wanna write the review as this place is AMAZING and I worry next time we go back it will be too popular too get in!
They have a really big menu and it took us some time to decide what we want. We order 3 dishes which were Grilled pork in Gipsy style, Garlic mushroom pasta and Grill vegetables.
The place offer free unlimited peanuts on each tables, you can have some while waiting for your meal, but bare in mind, do not snack too much, because the portion for the foods are unbelievable big (in good way)!
They have service ring on the table, so don't rush, take your time to explore the menu and just press the ring when you are ready to order ✨
Grilled pork in Gipsy style with salad I think this is number 53 or 56 if you wanna find it quickly on menu. The pork was giant, came with many potatoes, smoked pork fat, and a bit of salad. Pork was tasty and tender, and the flavor from pork fat was heaven when you have a bit from it and have a bit with the pork itself. It also came with a bowl (big bowl!) of the pickled vegetables to eased the heavy flavor from the dish.
Garlic mushrooms pasta Again, giant portion! Very creamy and tasty, but it's a bit too simple.
Grilled vegetables And again, giant portion! We thought this just a normal side dish, but it came same size as the main dish! This place is really generous with their foods! In the plate we got grilled bell peppers, potatoes, carrot, broccoli, red onion, and some other vegetables that I can't recall. It was so delicious, and full of grilled flavor, very juicy vegetables. I think it's the best grilled vegetables I've ever had in my life so far.
Can't finish foods? Don't worry, you can simple ask them to have take out box. We couldn't finish the foods and we took it back to our Airbnb for dinner. It still taste amaaaaaaazing even just reheat with microwave.
Overall Great atmosphere Great music Super friendly staff Giant portion with reasonable price Tasty foods and great quality
We already looking forward back to Budapest and visit this...
Read moreI am only giving it two stars because the staff is kind and the food is mid. But this is the worst experience I had in Budapest and I'm honestly shocked about it. It is true - prices are without vat. Is this even legal? Goulash soup for two people minimum and costs around 25 euro when you draw the line. Honestly couldn't afford anything else. I can't just leave 100 euro for a meal... Free peanuts, yes, that you must throw on the floor. Funny/weird. I guess they simulate a barn. That's interesting. The notes are also interesting and you can add yours with whatever you want, but... the bill is the most interesting. Prices outside and on the net differ from those on the menu, and the end-price differs even more! And on top of that you're kindly asked to provide additional tip while you pay, which seems to be a norm in Budapest now - this is everywhere, including Christmas markets.
For the food - maybe it's just bad luck, maybe it's how it's supposed to be - but the beef was so undercooked or old - I couldn't chew through even one bite of it. Super salty soup. I've eaten goulash 3 more times and don't find this to be better in any way.
Drinks - beer is good and for the high Hungarian standards the price is decent. I guess. Although only 0.4l ...
The hype and waiting outside for an hour are caused by people who want to try for themselves I guess, like I am, so try it if you want to, but be warned you'll be paying ~ x1.6 on what you can calculate on the menu. If you have no problem with that - it's a fine pub. Kind people. Even offered tea to those waiting...
Read moreWe were so excited to try this pub given the popular reviews and TikTok recommendations, but we’re extremely disappointed. We were ready to order & were trying to get the waiters attention for a while (a couple near us were too) & I ended up having to go to one of the waiters and ask to order (mind you they weren’t overly busy & were chatting to one another). We got the 1/2 serve of goulash and the veal stew, along with one soft drink. The goulash was disappointing, it was watery and lacked flavour (we have had several other goulash’s here and this was the worst) and the veal stew was okay, but dry. We were hungry so ate it anyway. When we were ready to pay, it was a extremely hard to get the bill, we had to flag down a waiter and he said he would sort it for us, 10 minutes later we were still waiting and had to go to another waiter to ask to pay, to which she seemed annoyed that we asked. Then the bill came which was much more then we expected it to be (given the half serve) along with a 12% mandatory service charge. We are more then happy to pay for good food and good service but the fact that we had to hunt down a waiter to order and pay, along with eat basic food was disappointing. As we were walking out we saw one of the chefs outside smoking, in his apron (which was filthy), which is a huge hygiene issue. If you are looking at eating here, I would suggest going elsewhere. There are so many other places which are cheaper, have better service and taste way better...
