The place confused me a little with its harsh yellow upholstery on the chairs and some purplish lighting here and there as its name and most of the menu suggested a typical traditional Hungarian interior, it wasn't rural or traditional at all. The music was quiet and international that I liked. The Csokonai Soup is a must! Perfect Hungarian goulash soup at its best and as a rare surprise it is gluten free!!! I will definitely go back for that soup alone. My second course was pork stake with garlic roast and smoked bacon. Big disappointment. First of all I had to wait for it over 10 minutes after my soup though I ordered both at the same time. (trying to be fair about the waiting time there was an event going on upstairs, being Saturday afternoon, so probably that slowed down the service) So the pork stake was way too salty for me and spicy the wrong way, the potato (boiled and roasted) didn't win my heart either. The salad that I ordered had nothing to do with traditional Hungarian "csalamade" as it wasn't really pickled but made with fresh vegetables, was OK, but not the food it was named after. I had the feeling that the whole second course was prepared with some budget ingredients...) The service was fine with a very young staff but OK. There was no gluten free dessert, no comment. So overall I would recommend the...
Read moreTried that on our day 2 of 4 in Debrecen. We kept eat it until the end so three meals here and we always picked up something different. Everything is perfect. I recommand the chicken breast with eggplant cream and cheese. A damnation. The cheesecake is a pure gem. We paid each time about 40 euros for two with drinks wich is a bit more expensive that the random restaurants yet for western salaries it's good deal. If you live here or come to holidays just go there. Yiu eat there for lunch and you're done for the day (they have reduced price for reduced portions but it's still a lot of food). It's a modern version of some central-europe classics but the kick ass way. Wine card good, lemonades are the best we drank in Hungary and when they say half a liter it's half a liter they dont fool you with 50% drink and 50% ice rocks. Dont eat somewhere else in the...
Read moreLet’s make it clear. Food is 5/5 . I personally didnt find the atmosphere too good for a dining as it has a rather fancy shiny neon colored-vibe, that reminded me of a disco combined with the neon green chairs in a cellar with white floor. Also, the tables are placed too crowded net giving enough free space and i had felt way too close to the always busy waiters walking up and down continuously through the entire 2 hours i was there. As a consequence of it being busy, the place is a little too loud for deep conversations. I think the place may be better for smaller or bigger groups celebrating someting, though. Another little problem was a powder/soap like smell that i felt throughout the entire lunch and i would also note that despite the waiters were kind i didnt feel them fully...
