A Fűszeres — Restaurant in Győri járás

If you are a tourist visiting Gyor and do not speak Hungarian, be very careful with this restaurant.

On 05/25/2025, I went to this restaurant with my wife to have breakfast. A young man came to serve us, who apparently knew how to speak English. I asked him, in English, for one of the breakfast options on the menu, even pointing to the option I had chosen on the menu.

Since more than 30 minutes had passed and the dish I had ordered had not arrived yet, I decided to question the waiter. I signaled to him about 3 times and it seemed to me that he saw my signaling but did not come to us. So I called him more emphatically and he finally came. I asked him about our order and he then came with our breakfast, quickly placed it on the table and left.

We thought it was strange, because it did not look like what we had ordered. My wife had started to touch the food but I asked her not to eat it yet. To avoid wasting any more time, I took the menu from another table, and then we were sure that the order had been wrong.

I then called a waitress and explained, in calm and slow English, that they had brought us a different breakfast option than the one we had ordered, and that we would like her to take away the one that had come wrong and bring us the correct option, and I pointed out on the menu which breakfast option we had ordered. She said nothing and just asked us what the drink option would be. I explained the situation again, and she seemed impatient and kept asking about the drink option. I then told her about the drink option and she left.

Since she did not remove the dish that had been wrong from the table, I called her again and asked, in calm and slow English, if that dish had been canceled, and she did not respond. I then asked her to remove the dish that had not been eaten, to make it clear that it was not what we had ordered.

After another 15 to 20 minutes, the correct dish finally arrived. We ate and, as instructed, went to the cashier to pay.

When we got to the cashier, the person strangely did not print out a paper with the bill so we could check it, as is usual in any restaurant. She read, in a difficult-to-understand diction, what was on the screen that only she could see. The amount seemed too high to me, but since I had already wasted a lot of time there and I still had to see the city, which I would be leaving at the end of the afternoon, I ended up paying and leaving the establishment.

However, my wife warned me that the amount was much higher than it should have been. So we decided to go back into the restaurant and I asked her to print out a receipt for what we had consumed.

When she printed the receipt, I realized that they had also charged for the dish that had not been consumed. I informed her of this. At this point, the waitress who had served me had already approached me, and even though I tried to explain the situation to her by translating it into Hungarian using Google Translate, instead of apologizing for the confusion, she could only say that we had eaten the wrong dish and pointed to a sign that said they would not give refunds after payment had been made!

Only then did I realize that the waitress had not understood a single thing I had explained to her at the table! And worse, when she apparently understood, instead of apologizing and correcting the mistake, she began to act in a way that avoided responsibility for herself!

I then decided to talk to a woman who seemed to be the restaurant manager. Instead of coming to talk to me right away, she went first to talk to her employees. I had to wait a while for her to talk to them, and only then did she come to serve me. Since I realized that she was not fluent in English either, I wrote a text explaining the situation, translated it into Hungarian using Google Translator and showed it to her. Her only reaction was to say "sorry".

We then left the establishment, feeling frustrated and cheated. And also determined to tell what happened to us in that restaurant, so that no one else inadvertently goes through...

🇭🇺 Magyar: Nagyon kellemes hely, remek menüválasztékkal. Gombás melegszendvicset rendeltünk, és bár elsőre sajnos keveredés történt – az egyik étel nem az volt, amit kértünk –, ezt azonnal korrigálták és elnézést kértek. Az új elkészítés miatt volt némi késés, viszont kiemelendő, hogy bár csak az egyik rendelés volt téves, mindkettőt frissen készítették el újra. Ez a hozzáállás példamutató, és teljesen feledteti a hibát. A kávé egyféle pörkölésből készül, de örülnék, ha bővítenék a kínálatot egy savasabb, citrusosabb, világos pörkölésű kávéval is. Emellett javasolnám, hogy a személyzet kapjon részletesebb képzést a kínált kávékról, mert a kérdésemre csak később kaptam választ, a pörkölésről pedig akkor sem. A személyzet egyébként kedves és udvarias volt, a hibát profi módon kezelték – ez sajnos ritka, de annál értékesebb! A gombás melegszendvics kiemelkedően finom és friss volt, ilyet máshol az országban még nem kóstoltam. Biztosan vissza fogunk még térni. Köszönjük!

🇬🇧 English: A very pleasant place with an excellent menu selection. We ordered a mushroom toast, and although there was a small mix-up at first – one of the dishes was not what we ordered – the staff immediately corrected it and apologized. There was a slight delay due to the remake, but it’s worth noting that although only one order was incorrect, they freshly prepared both again. This approach is exemplary and completely makes up for the mistake. The coffee is made from a single roast, but I would be happy if they added a more acidic, citrusy light roast option to the menu. I would also recommend providing the staff with more detailed training about the coffees they serve, as my question was only answered later, and not regarding the roast. The staff was otherwise friendly and polite, and they handled the mistake in a truly professional way – something rare, but very much appreciated! The mushroom toast was exceptionally delicious and fresh; I haven’t had anything like it elsewhere in the country. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you!

🇷🇺 Русский: Очень уютное место с отличным меню. Мы заказали горячий бутерброд с грибами, и хотя сначала произошла небольшая путаница – одно из блюд оказалось не тем, что мы заказали – персонал сразу же всё исправил и извинился. Приготовление заново заняло немного больше времени, но стоит отметить, что, хотя ошибка была только в одном заказе, они приготовили заново оба блюда. Такой подход заслуживает похвалы и полностью компенсирует недоразумение. Кофе здесь готовят из одного вида обжарки, но я был бы рад, если бы в меню появился вариант с более кислотным, цитрусовым вкусом и лёгкой обжаркой. Также рекомендую дать персоналу более подробное обучение по предлагаемым сортам кофе, так как на мой вопрос я получил ответ лишь позже, а об обжарке – и вовсе нет. В остальном персонал был дружелюбным и вежливым, а ситуацию с ошибкой они решили максимально профессионально – это большая редкость, и за это отдельное спасибо! Горячий бутерброд с грибами был исключительно вкусным и свежим, ничего подобного я не пробовал в других местах страны. Мы обязательно вернёмся сюда...

Kind staff, but the breakfast was controversial in line with the earlier reviews. Egg benedict is one of the hardest type of egg to be prepared, and normally only those places offer who are able to make it perfect. Fűszeres is the first exception in my life, extremely moist, too much sauce with a lot of onion chutney and avocado underneath on a very thin slice of soaked bread. The beetroot puree on its own cannot be put onto anything. Other easier choices (English breakfast, bagel, scrambled egg) looked very decent though. Also they have a different definition about flatwhite than any other cafeteria :( They could be lot better without offering fancy things they cannot...
