Returning to Szeged after 10 years, I was only dreaming of finding again the restaurant where I had a delicious fish soup and a mouthwatering beef goulash. To my absolute surprise, good fate lead us to the exact place, by the banks of the Tisza river. Just Google “best fish soup in Szeged”😜 the place is looking amazing, having a casual yet somehow bohemian air, the terrace in the trees shade a blessing for a sun burned traveler on a summer afternoon. The staff is excellent, as is their level of English and their friendliness. Helpful and communicative, the young gentleman that served us gets a big shout out and a heartfelt thank you for his attitude. The fish soup was delicious, hot as any soup should be, and we made good use of the excellent Hungarian chili flakes. The flavours of the soup were perfectly balanced and only the thought of having a goulash kept us from ordering a bigger portion. As for the goulash, which is found under the name of Beef stew with red wine, what a delight! Pieces of meat that melted in our mouths, the sauce of a deep colour that stood proof for the bell peppers, the famous Hungarian paprika and the red wine that blended together with the subtle caraway notes to bring out the exquisite pinnacle of the Hungarian cuisine, the goulash. Served with dumplings in sour cream sauce, this superb goulash left us feeling regrets for not living closer to Szeged😀At our waiter’s recommendation we tried the plum pie, which was so good that we ordered some for takeaway 😀I cannot end my review without mentioning their lemonade, refreshing and cold, with the perfect level of sweetness and the discreet hint from the mint sprigs floating in the carafe. Definitely a place I would recommend to anyone and where I will return with...
Read moreWe live in Budapest and we love fish soup, so we visited with high expectations recommended by a Hungarian friend from Szeged. However, while waiting for the table, the server who made eye contact just ignored my greeting. And another server guided the team behind us to the table first. But the server, who ignored our greetings, came later and told us that we couldn't have a dinner because the terrace seats were full, and we told him that the person behind us was got a table first. The server didn't even guide them and immediately lied and said they already had a reservation. Another server came and after chatting among themselves, another server guided us to our table and there were a few more free tables in the place that was said to be full.🤷🏻♀️ Fortunately, the staff who guided us and served us food both them were very friendly. Thank you so much again to those people! However, I don't know if the first server who didn't want to have us as guests had a bad experience with Asians. We don’t want think about it’s a racism but honestly it feels so bad. I hope other people don't have the same...
Read moreI recently visited this Hungarian restaurant, and my experience was a mix of good and disappointing moments.
The food was quite good but nothing extraordinary. The menu offers traditional Hungarian dishes, including the well-known fish soup, which was tasty and served in very generous portions. If you’re looking for hearty meals, you won’t leave hungry.
Unfortunately, the service left a very negative impression. Upon arrival, one of the waiters rudely told us there were no available tables and clearly did not want to let us in. What makes this worse is that the tables were visibly free even at that moment, which we could see ourselves. After waiting for few minutes, we asked another waiter, who confirmed that there were four empty tables and promptly seated us. This kind of attitude is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the restaurant. The manager should seriously address this behavior.
While the food was decent and the portions were large, the unprofessional service of one waiter overshadowed the experience. I would hesitate to return unless the staff improves their approach...
