Different restaurants give out different vibes. That depends so much on the ambience (including lighting, interiors, seating, spacing etc.) as well as the people. Sunga and Sparta scores so high on not just the former but especially the latter. From the moment you enter and are ushered in by the reception, you can sense genuine attention and staff who are happy to see you. There couldn't be a better welcome than that! The food and drink menu is extensive yet not overwhelming. The idea of combining northeast food exemplified by the sunga (bamboo cooking) with Mediterranean and Continental themed food (Sparta) is just so wonderfully simple yet brilliant! It was like having the best of both worlds for people like me and my wife who swear by northeast cooking but also enjoy the healthy and low spiced Continental options. The staff (great to see many ladies handling all kinds of roles from waiting to reception!) were extremely nice and helpful providing just the right inputs on the menu without being overbearing (very important for us!). We settled on the Sunga menu for our main course (Sunga platter meal with local fish), starters from the Sparta menu (Mezze platter and pork with birds eye chilli). There is also an excellent selection of cocktails and other standard alcohol items. The food was flawless and we even spoke to the chef to get his recipe for the Sunga local fish! He was happy to share his secrets and indulge us - something that made us feel even more connected to this place. This is definitely my current most favourite place in Guwahati and both me and my wife could not help but reflect on the difference between this place and TMR which had given us such an unpleasant feeling. I would recommend this place to families, groups and couples any day. By including elements of the northeast in its food, they have also shown that they are truly representative of the diverse food cultures...
Read moreHad visited the place with great enthusiasm , especially after hearing a lot about the place but was utterly disappointed.
First of all , lets talk about the food . We ordered coke (sparkling water by glass ), pita bread with hummus , chicken hakka noodles and pizza ( margherita clasicana ) . Ps :- the pizza never came We have to wait almost one hour ( 30 mins for pita and hummus and another 30 minutes for the noodles ) and trust me the wait was not worth it . And after one jour when we asked like where is our pizza , they are even not aware we ordered one ( like seriously ) . Okay , i accept that we changed our seats . Actually there are two seating arrangements sunga and sparta . We didnot find our previous seat comfortable so we asked them if we can change to other seat , abd they readily agreed . Maybe so the ordered got mixed up a bit , but isn’t it their responsibility to make sure we get our order correctly , they could have just asked us or repeated the order once . Also many guest were served welcome drinks ( though i am not completely sure ) but we were not given the same
The ambiance is good but not small and crowded
For the service , i found it good at first but after we change our seats we were alloted a different lady ( i wont mention the name ) I found her behaviour strange , when we mentioned about the pizza , she was like i have work to do let me do it and i will talk to you ( it was okay if she was really busy but the tone with which she said was not good )
After that we asked them to just hand over the bill, along with which she gave us a feedback form . We wrote down our grievances but she has a problem with that too . She was like why didn’t u give us a good rating . I didn’t understand how can someone ask a customer for good rating in that tone
Some of the staff behaviour was really good though .
In short , we...
Read moreThe change of palates was long due for a city like Guwahati to meet the standards of other cities around the country and the world. It is a perfect getaway from regular ubiquitous Chinese and typical North Indian Tandoori and Biriyani/Mughlai spicy & oil-loaded food stuff. It has the essence of Far East, not only concentrating on Chinese foods, but included all the countries starting from our neighbouring Burma to South Korea & Japan. The warmth of the ethnic foods of the neighbourhood is worth mentioning, especially Sunga. It also encompasses the foods of Mediterranean region and North African countries. I was long dying for to taste the foods of Morocco, Lebanon, Greece, etc., watching the delectable dishes and recipes on food shows in TV. Now, I have an option to choose from. Quality of food items is excellent, there is room for improvement to match the high standards of world class chefs, especially when there is special mention of world renowned Executive Master Chef, Gordon Ramsay, in the introductory part of the menu. Meticulous attention to details is the essence of any fine dining. Overall, presentation was eye catchy. The ambiance of the restaurant was very pleasant and heart warming. The concept of division of the restaurant into two halves on the themes of Far East and Mediterranean was exquisite. From the blue windows on the white wall background with flower pots underneath to gladiator statues and upside down hanging cherry 🌸 blossom were thoughtfully designed. I just loved the interior decor, high tables and furniture. Crockery and utensils are also of good quality. Overall, it was a fine dining experience and my young...
