The evening kicked off with that immediate sense of yes, this is the place. The Maroon Room in Guwahati hit the mark right from the start – the energy, the vibe, and the layout all perfectly balanced. The lighting was warm and mellow, bathing the space in that understated glow you only find in venues that truly know what they’re doing.
The moment you step inside, the place feels alive yet intimate, an elegant fusion of traditional Asian décor and modern sophistication. Rich red tones dominate the room, creating a warm, festive ambience, while intricate golden patterns on the pillars and walls add a touch of cultural artistry.
The layout is spacious and thoughtfully organised, featuring round wooden tables surrounded by sturdy, curved-back chairs, designed for both comfort and conversation. The walls showcase beautifully carved circular wooden panels adorned with traditional Asian motifs, seamlessly blending into the overall design.
The towering bar façade makes a statement without trying too hard, while the inclusive smoking section offers a premium view, turning even a quick smoke into something worth savouring.
The Budweiser premium bucket landed on the table early, icy cold and perfectly crisp, setting the tone for the evening. It was one of those moments where everything just clicks, chilled beers, old friends, and a space that felt like it was made for precisely this.
Then the food arrived. Those mushrooms? Incredible. Perfectly sautéed, earthy, and rich , absolutely impossible to stop eating. Next up was the tandoori fish, smoky, tender, and spiced to perfection, each bite leaving us nodding in agreement, as if to say, “Yes, they’ve nailed this.” The fried rice and noodles held their own, wok-tossed to perfection, flavourful without being greasy – exactly the kind of comfort food you want between sips of beer and bursts of laughter.
Dessert, however, was a bit of a mixed bag. The cheesecake stole the show – smooth, creamy, and indulgent without being overly heavy. It was the perfect finishing note. The tiramisu, though, didn’t quite reach the same heights. Something about it felt a little off, as if it hadn’t quite got the memo about joining the party. Not a dealbreaker by any means, but we definitely found ourselves leaning harder on that cheesecake.
What truly tied the night together was the service – impeccable from start to finish. The staff were quick, attentive, and made everything feel utterly effortless. No long waits, no repeated requests – everything just flowed seamlessly. For what we received – the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere – it felt like genuine value for money.
The Maroon Room delivered on every front without breaking the bank, which is a rare thing these days. It’s a place that undoubtedly deserves a solid recommendation. I’d go back in a heartbeat, Budweiser bucket on ice, ready...
Read more2nd Visit - I haven't noticed many changes - it's the same familiar place with its cozy ambiance. This time, we decided to try some of the other exclusive cocktails, and I particularly enjoyed the Lousy Coconut. The hint of coconut flavor was refreshing and lifted our spirits. As for the food, the Chicken & Asparagus dish was delightful, although the preparation was a bit bland. The aftertaste, however, was excellent.
On Friday night, a band was playing on the stage, and they performed quite well. However, the sound was so loud that we couldn't hear each other's voices. Even after several requests, the staff didn't turn down the volume, which was a shame considering the small size of the place. Please take note of this issue. The place is not that big to accommodate electric guitar on full outburst.
1st Visit - One of the nicer “ROOMS” in Guwahati. Everything about this place is spot on.
THE DÉCOR - I would like to start with the entrance which is guarded by a hanging wooden dragon and is exquisite. The moment you enter the main area, the decor would certainly wow you. I was impressed with the use of space and the seating arrangements. The bar area is particularly inviting and I loved the way they covered an entire section of the wall with bottles. My next point of praise is for the owner who, being a keen traveller, has been able to do justice to the name 'Pan-Asian', and this is a spot that is rightly so a place to grab a drink, settle in and make yourself comfortable - IZAKAYA. One of the walls we sat against had locks all over it, and the rusty nature of the locks exudes VINTAGE.
THE COCKTAILS - They have a special menu section inspired by the 5 elements theory - wood, fire, earth, metal and water. And the cocktails are made with each of these elements in mind. We ordered the Movietime - Earth based and the Spirit of Betel - Wood based. We loved them both and each left its own special aftertaste. These cocktails are on the expensive side though.
THE FOOD - For bar bites we went for the edamame in chilli garlic pink salt, finally served in Guwahati. This was followed by crispy pork belly in char siu sauce, both of which we found perfectly delicious. This was followed by dim sums and sushi. We especially loved the prawn hargow dimsum, so tender and the filling was LIIT. We were already full from the number of cocktails we had, so we decided to call it a day.
ALL IN ALL, ONE OF THE BEST IN GUWAHATI....
Read moreIt was an unforgettable experience. Th lunch was delightful. From the moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the warm and inviting ambiance of the restaurant. The décor was sleek and modern, with a touch of elegance that set the tone for a sophisticated dining experience.
But what truly stole the show was the exceptional service provided by Amir Khan, our server for the evening. Amir was attentive, knowledgeable, and courteous, making sure that our every need was catered to. He took the time to explain the menu, made excellent recommendations, and ensured that our glasses were always full.
Now, onto the food – the real pièce de résistance. We opted for the hot pot and sushi, and oh, what a treat it was! The hot pot was a flavorful and hearty broth filled with tender chunks of meat and vegetables. The sushi, on the other hand, was a work of art – delicate, fresh, and expertly prepared and I highly suggest the drink the secret! It was exceptional and super refreshing and it literally left me wanting more. Believe me when I say this, each and every sip was complete bliss. Really enjoyed how refreshing it was.
The combination of the two was absolute perfection. The hot pot's rich flavors complemented the sushi's subtle taste, creating a harmonious balance of flavors that left us wanting more.
What truly impressed me, however, was the attention to detail that The Maroon Room brought to the table. From the beautifully crafted sushi rolls to the carefully selected ingredients, every aspect of the meal was thoughtfully considered.
In conclusion, my experience at The Maroon Room was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of outstanding service, exquisite cuisine, and a warm and inviting atmosphere made for a truly unforgettable evening. If you're a foodie looking for a unique and sophisticated dining experience, look no further than The Maroon Room. And be sure to ask for Amir Khan – he'll take care of you...
