Not one of my top five favorite South Indian breakfast foods is idli. I regard idli as food for patients, and that's how doctors typically recommend it to their patients. Or, as a safe bet when I have to eat at an unfamiliar restaurant while traveling, I order idli. But after hearing great things from my sister-in-law and a few other people, I decided to give it a shot when I was neither unwell or traveling.
It's a new eatery, I've heard. I only submit reviews in response to really positive experiences or negative experiences with services. This is among such uncommon instances.
The pudi thatte idli was delicious. With a generous helping of ghee, it was really tender. Unlike store bought ghee, this one had a lot of flavor. The chutney pudi is perfectly spiced, fresh, coarse, and nutty. It was accompanied with sambar, green and red chutneys. The chutneys didn't have a lot of roasted channa dal unlike other restaurants. It had fresh coconut and the consistency was just right. It was excellent, I have to admit.
Paneer 65, gobi manchurian, and masala dosa were also ordered. The Paneer 65 was delicious and really gingery. The town's best filter coffee is at the cafe. They had goli soda as well. It felt so revitalizing. My youngster was a huge fan of their Gobi Manchurian and Dosa. He finished a whole serving. We had a great time throughout.
We missed out on maddhur vada as it was sold out. Would love to try that next time. One other thing I came across when I spoke to one of the staff is that they do not use MSG and that their ingredients are sourced with care, which is very rare. A very healthy option I must say.
I strongly recommend that you try the...

Unless their managers are sitting there, the staff is rude & sometimes downright creepy. It’s a self-service restaurant so you can imagine that for the staff to be called rude or creepy, their behaviour must have been poor indeed. Staff get irritated if you disturb them while they’re drinking tea or something and make sure it translates into the order too, extra small portions of chutney, small things but they all add up. I have felt very unsafe an incident where a server kept staring at me & continuously lingering around me & I no longer go there alone since they outright implied I was exaggerating about it because he was “doing his iob” but there were four tables with empty plates that needed cleaning before mine but he exclusively picked up my half eaten plate when I went to pick up another item from my order, very disconcerting experience.
The owners & managers cannot forever be sitting there but definitely this is a big factor in whether people return or not. I still like svarasya for the quality of food but the other factors are also important. The managers & owners are not serving us, it’s the wait staff. If interactions with them are going to be like a bad plot from a bad regional tv soap playing out, it’s really not...
Read moreCafe Svarasya is a lovely little vegetarian spot with a clean and calm ambience. It feels homely and neat – a great place to sit back and enjoy some good South Indian food.
The menu is all vegetarian and super friendly for all kinds of eaters. The Vada was hot, crispy, and full of flavour. But the hero of the meal was the Thatte Idly – so soft and tasty, it just melts in your mouth. We also tried the Mangalore Bonda, which was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft inside – absolutely yummy!
What makes this place even better is how kid-friendly it is. There’s enough space to sit comfortably, and it wasn’t too crowded. The staff are polite and helpful, making you feel welcome. And the best part? It’s very pocket-friendly, so you can enjoy a good meal without spending too much.
If you’re looking for simple, tasty vegetarian food in a calm setting, Cafe Svarasya is definitely worth a visit. We’ll surely...
