I have lost count as to how many times I have come close to eating at this place CHINA PEARL IN KORAMANGALA, only to have plans changed or something or the other comes up, including the pandemic. I FINALLY got to visit this month after years, with a friend. It is a lovely cozy joint decorated in red with soft lights as with all Chinese restaurants. I usually stick to the tried and tested and much loved chilly garlic noodles and decided to experiment with new dishes instead like the following: STARTERS Shaolin Sticks: This was yummy! Fried crispy mashed vegetable sticks tossed in chilly garlic sauce. Cauliflower Fung pao – a variation of veg balls with only cauliflower instead of veggies. This was almost black and looked weird but tasted simply great – spicy and different. MAIN COURSE: Veg Lat Lo Chowmein: This is noodles already mixed in spicy veg gravy – I dint like this one (subjective). I found the noodles dunked in gravy, usually I prefer gravy dish and noodles separately. This is what happens when you try to experiment.. While it was easy to eat a large portion and i finished quite a bit, it wasn’t mind blowing enough for me to think of wanting to order again down the line or recommend to others. My friend loved it. I think I’ll stick to my chilly garlic noodles. Dessert: My friend had butterscotch ice cream and I had the coconut pannacotta with honey mango on top which was delicious! A fitting end to the meal. Service is quick. I like that nobody is breathing down your neck and they give you your space. Portions were generous. Prices were surprisingly reasonable compared to other Chinese places I’ve eaten. This gets crowded real fast so it is better to go early. Great for team meets who are into Chinese cuisine. Would I go again – my benchmark for whether a place appealed to me or not: definitely yes!! – they have a huge variety of dishes for vegetarians and I’m dying to try their other starters and dishes. Would I recommend to others: Yes again! Worth a visit. Overall rating 4/5 purely subjective rating instead of 5/5 because the main course didn’t do it for me. But don’t let this put you off. Ratings for reviews 1-No! No! No! 2-Just about average 3- Good. Can give it a try 4-Great!! 5-Yes! Yes! Yes! And I’ll tell...

Read moreThere have been million times we would have passed through China Pearl in Koramangala, always wanting to try out their food, but never really stopped the car and stepped out to try. One such occasion we decided to stop and pack our dinner and reheat if necessary if the food did not end up remaining hot on our drive from Koramangala to Whitefield.
From the looks of it, China Pearl seems like a classic restaurant that has been time tested, remained for years with minimal or no change in menu with a bunch of regulars always visiting. After placing my order which I was warned will take at least 20-30 minutes, I observed large families with kids and intimate couples, and friends peacefully coexisting savouring the delicious chinese fare that this place has to offer, the service seemed impeccable with priority given more for dine-in customer order, while my order was waitlisted along with Swiggy and Zomato. That made me make a mental note to do a dine-in here soon.
I had ordered a chicken manchow soup, steamed Chicken momos, and as recommended by the staff, picked up the Fung Pao Prawn Dry and Spicy Red Pepper Chicken. The order after a few followups was neatly packed and handed over in a bag in about 40 minutes.
The Chicken Momos were super juicy hot and did not survive the drive home, as the hungry bunch devoured it with a lot of oohs and aahs about how delicious they were.
Once home the soup was heated and it was a very delicious version, slightly varied from the usual chicken manchows that we are used to, but definitely good.
The Fung Pao Prawn dry was a stunner, large prawns beautifully coated in a delicious spicy sauce, and perfectly cooked.
The Spicy Red Pepper Chicken had an aftertaste hit of dry red chilli, but was not preferred, maybe the seasoning was a bit less and off, the chicken however was cooked beautifully soft.
From what we tried, we are definitely going to be regulars, at least now we will stop for a takeaway instead of being undecided. A bit of hits and very minimal misses, I would definitely recommend China Pearl and would love to visit them soon, maybe...
