Okay for namesake Assamese food... I would not say the food is bad but they largely lack the pure taste and appeal of authentic Assamese food... For instance the joha rice that they serve, it is nowhere close to the original version we get in Assam... When original Assamese Joha rice is served, the whole house fills with its aroma, here you hardly gey any aroma even after holding the bowl close to your nose... Then there is the pork khorika, the original recipe we find in Assamese households is made by slow roasting succulent marinated pork pieces cooking them slowly over time... Here they have the pieces already boiled, half cooked and quickly roasted on fire upon order (my best guess based on how they look and taste)... Then there is the quintessential Assamese favourite - Masor Tenga... This dish needs time for that authentic flavour to come through, for the fish to soak up all that tanginess from the gravy and release its own juices in return, imparting a simple yet complex favour to the dish... This cannot be achieved by tossing some fish pieces into the sour gravy and serving... I personally felt the fish lacked that authentic sour taste everytime I tried...
Overall an okay place for a change of taste once in a while, but please do not expect purely authentic Assamese taste, you'll be left disappointed... Ambiance is pretty good though, you'll feel you're in some restaurant in Assam... They have done a good job here... One more point in their favour - the staff is very polite and tries to take good...
Read moreGam’s Delicacy has been a favourite for me and my husband for quite a few years now. Whenever we miss our home state, Assam, and crave its distinct flavours—especially during the days when sourcing native ingredients here in Bangalore was nearly impossible—this is the place we turn to.
The food has never disappointed. It’s always authentic, rooted in Assamese tradition, and prepared with care. Their menu is extensive, featuring everything from duck to pork, and the little details truly warm the heart—be it the bhoot jolokia, kajia nemu, bamboo shoot pickle, til chutney, or the variety of complimentary chutneys that accompany the meal. We mostly order the Assamese thali, fish pitika and pork with bamboo shoot - each of which is fulfilling and tastes authentic.
The ambience has also improved over the years, now beautifully showcasing Assamese handlooms, crafts, and photographs that make you feel like you've stepped back home. The staff deserves a special mention for their consistent effort and hospitality. Every visit leaves us with a satisfied palate and a happy heart. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the true flavours of Assam...
Read moreI went for dinner and ordered veg thali and koldil bhaji (banana flower).
Ambience is totally Assamese, and there was Bhupen Hazarika music in the background. Restaurant is a small and compact cozy space.
Would rate as below:
Koldil bhaji, aloo pitika and khar tasted good. 4/5
Both the dali items did not taste good and had very high salt and I couldn't eat even after squeezing lemon (at my home everyone says I consume too much salt, since this was too high salt for me it was extremely salty). 2/5
All three chutneys tasted good but had extremely high salt. 3/5
Except rice, all items were served cold. 1/5
Customer service was below average. 2/5
They need to serve hot food. After I placed the order, they brought all the items within 5 minutes, even koldil bhaji was not heated before serving.
They also need to improve customer service. In front of me there were a group of 3 people (2 men and 1 woman) seated at the corner table in the inside room. Another group of 4 people came, and the restaurant staff asked the 3 people to move to the outside room's table. The 3 people actually moved. Poor...
