Disappointing food options (options different from those mentioned in the menu), huge portion sizes, very polite and friendly staff, and traditional ambience (tatami style seating).
Food: The menu is very impressive, they have both Japanese and Korean options, but the experience was a little bit disappointing. Though mentioned on the menu, I couldn't get baked or fresh oysters, rice bowl with grilled scallops (hotate don). Oysters and Scallops were not available at all.
They served complementary Matcha (Japanese green tea). I tried to order Fish Katsu Curry and Rice but Fish Katsu was not available either. They instead suggested that I go for a chicken option. I went ahead with Japanese Grilled Chicken Curry and Rice. It was delicious, the curry was savoury, had umami flavours, and was just aromatic. Japanese Curry is a must-try dish.
I also got some Natto and Tuna. Natto (fermented soybeans) was interesting and nice but is not exactly the tastiest dish ever. It was similar to the Natto that I made at home.
We ordered Octopus (tako) karaage which was quite crispy and appetizing.
We got some Ebi (Prawn) Tempura Sushi which was excellent.
From the Korean menu section, We ordered a Tteokbokki which was authentic and nice. We also got some Yangnyeom chicken (Korean fried chicken with gochujang sauce). That was quite delicious as well. These come with complementary banchan (a bunch of Korean side-dishes including Kimchi (fermented cabbage)).
They have other interesting food options such as unagi (eel) as well.
The portion size of every dish is quite huge. I wish they reduced the quantity in each dish.
Ambience: Unique and traditional tatami style seating. We chose that over the regular chairs and tables. They also have some manga. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Service: Very polite and friendly staff. A little inexperienced but very courteous.
Overall, it's a great place to try both Japanese and Korean foods at a decent price. Just note that some ingredients are seasonal such as oysters or scallops (one of them told me that oysters would be available from November onwards). Better call them up before going and enquire about the availability of your...
Read moreI visited Hokkaido a few weeks ago to explore Japanese cuisine. The restaurant, located in Indiranagar, proved a bit challenging to find due to its slightly concealed location. Situated on the first floor, the ambiance reflects Asian culture, though it falls into the average category.
Arriving around 8 pm on a Saturday, I anticipated a bustling crowd, but surprisingly, only a few tables were occupied. Being unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine, we sought assistance from the attentive staff. The attendant was helpful in explaining the dishes, but I opted for salmon sushi against her recommendation.
The sushi took a lengthy 30 minutes to arrive, a slower pace than expected. The presentation was commendable, with eight well-decorated pieces topped with fish eggs. Accompanied by wasabi, soy sauce, and pickled ginger, the sushi showcased a sweetish taste with a salty punch from the soy sauce. Despite the presentation, I regretted not heeding the recommendation and found the taste unpleasant, nearly leading to an unfortunate reaction.
Following the sushi, we ordered stir-fried chicken with yaki-yaki sauce and tempura prawns. The chicken was flavorful, slightly crunchy, and saucy, served with vegetables, though the portion size was a bit small. The tempura prawns were enjoyable, featuring a crisp golden exterior and a dip sauce, with a satisfying portion size.
For our final course, we opted for udon – chicken for me and beef for my friend. The portions were generous, incorporating greens and ample chicken. However, the taste was mediocre, as I lacked experience with soupy udon.
The bill for two amounted to approximately 3300, making it a less pocket-friendly option. Fortunately, they accept Zomato Pro, offering a discount. Ambiance falls somewhere between mediocre and good, with a common washroom facility.
In conclusion, Hokkaido gives good experience with highlights like the attentive staff and well-presented dishes, cannot criticize on food as I know a very little about...
