My wife and I visited Karims recently for lunch. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. Ordered their Afghani chicken for starters, after seeing this being recommended in a lot of the reviews. Also ordered Chicken Biryani Anarkali, Chicken Kali Mirch curry, Khamiri Roti and Garlic Naan for main course. Didn’t try any mutton dishes since we don’t like mutton in general. The Afghani chicken was decent. The malai sauce flavour was mild as expected. But I guess I wouldn’t go for it again. Should try the chicken burrah or tandoori instead next time. The Khamiri roti was a pleasant surprise, the texture and flavour was unique and we really liked it. Definitely recommended. A better option than the usual Tandoori Roti also made of wheat flour. The garlic naan was also good, quick thick unlike typical naan you get at other places but found the flavour of the rotis and naans to be unique and good. Meaning you could eat it on its own. Recommended again. Coming to the Biryani, reminded me of a Lucknow style Biryani, and it was pretty good with balanced flavours but honestly not mind blowing. The Chicken Kali Mirch curry was fantastic, the flavours were quite balanced with slight sweetness unlike other Kali mirch curries with a spice tangent only. Def recommended. Only issue being the chicken was overcooked and not tender. Couldn’t eat the chicken in the curry at all due to this. Didn’t bother to complain to avoid the hassle. Overall, it’s a pretty good mughlai cuisine restaurant but can’t comment on how authentic it is compared to the OG in Delhi. Good service. Comparable to Sharief Bhai. Recommended to visit this place with a bunch of foodies so you could try a lot of different dishes. One star less for all the minor issues called out above.

A Surprising Turnaround I had visited Karim’s on May 1st, 2024, for dinner, and my experience was nothing short of a nightmare. Finding a feather in the chicken gravy and realizing the chicken wasn’t fresh made me vow never to return. It was a huge disappointment, and I had completely written off the place. However, today, my sister, who was visiting from Abu Dhabi, insisted on trying Karim’s. Despite my reluctance, the nostalgia of Delhi-style food convinced me to give it another shot. Before ordering, I made sure to request the staff to be extra cautious about food quality. To my surprise, the experience was nothing like the last time—it was fantastic! The Mutton Shorba was rich and flavorful, setting the tone for an amazing meal. The seekh kebabs and chicken starters were well-cooked and delicious. The Mutton Muskaan and Mutton Nalli Nihari were outstanding, perfectly balanced with rich, aromatic gravies. The variety of breads—Khamiri roti, butter naan, regular naan, and tandoori roti—were the highlight. I have had naans and tandoori rotis at multiple restaurants worldwide, but nothing came close to this. Even an hour later, the butter naan remained incredibly soft. That said, a few things need improvement. The staff should ensure that cutlery is placed on the table beforehand. Additionally, for senior citizens, finger bowls or wet tissues should be provided. It’s quite inconvenient that the wash basin is on the first floor. Service was decent, though it could be improved with better staff-to-customer ratio. Portion sizes were generous and worth every penny. While there’s no valet parking, street parking is available. Overall, Karim’s has redeemed itself in my eyes, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Great Delhi non veg cuisine. Food is bit spicy, so confirm the spice level before ordering. Let me rate the food and the place. Soup – quantity is good per person. Chicken soup is great however, the tomato soup is bit spicy and sour. Can be made better Salad – Fresh cut tomato, onion, cucumber, and carrot Chicken burrah – 4 grilled chicken pieces. Medium spicy Mutton sheekh – 4 soft, well marinated grilled minced meat Nihari – the super star of the table. Tender and juicy meat in semi thick gravy. WOW Sheermal – thick layer of bread like with – doesn’t feel heavy like it looks Khamiri – similar to tandoor roti but lighter in color and digestion, its their specialty. I absolutely loved it and recommended Tandoor roti – freshly made and goes very well with the Nihari Citaphal ice cream – you will see fresh custard apple chunks. Looked fresh Sheer Khurma ice cream – sheer khurma in frozen form. Doesn’t taste like a typical ice cream flavor, but something new to try Here’s what I liked other the food. Hygiene and cleanliness is well taken care of. Dine in area is bright and elegantly decorated. Gets very busy on weekends and waiting time can go to upto 30 mins or more (got mine in 15 mins) Hers what I didn't like. The place gets noisy with so many customers around. Add to that you can hear all kinds of noise from the kitchen and bollywood songs on a not so high volume. I prefer quite places Karim’s may not be a fine dining but definitely on the higher end and stands out in that really busy road. I would recommend Karims for your special treats.

Disappointed Birthday Lunch Experience

I visited this restaurant for lunch on my birthday and was really looking forward to the meal. We ordered Chicken Afghani and Mutton Biryani Akbari. The Chicken Afghani was quite good, but unfortunately, our experience took a downturn from there.

As we started eating the Mutton Biryani, we found a strand of hair in the very first bite. We initially chose to overlook it, but to our shock, we found more than four strands of hair in the biryani. We immediately informed the waiter.

Trying to salvage the meal, we went ahead and ordered Butter Naan and Chicken Jhingari. While waiting for the food, we noticed that other diners at a nearby table were also removing strands of hair from their food.

For a restaurant that falls on the pricier side, this level of hygiene is completely unacceptable. It was a very disappointing experience, especially on a day that was meant to be special. We sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves food hygiene and quality control.

Let me know if you'd like a shorter version or if you want it tailored for a complaint email or social media post.

Unpleasant Birthday Lunch Experience

I went for lunch on my birthday, expecting a good dining experience. We ordered Chicken Afghani and Mutton Biryani Akbari. While the Chicken Afghani was good, the experience quickly went downhill.

As we started eating the Mutton Biryani, we found a strand of hair in the very first bite. We initially decided to ignore it, but to our shock, we found more than four strands of hair throughout the dish. We immediately brought this to the attention of the waiter.

Trying to move past the incident, we ordered Butter Naan and Chicken Jhingari. While waiting, we noticed that other guests at a nearby table were also removing hair from their food, which shows this wasn’t an isolated issue.

The entire mood of our meal was spoiled. On top of the food hygiene issues, the service was poor and the staff were not very hospitable. To add to the disappointment, we were charged an extra service charge, which we refused to pay given the experience and the lack of proper service.

For a restaurant that is on the pricier side, this kind of quality and hygiene is completely unacceptable. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving both food hygiene and...

If you're a fan of authentic Mughlai cuisine, Karim's Kalyan Nagar is an absolute must-visit! With its roots in the legendary Karim's from Jama Masjid, Delhi-6, this restaurant brings a slice of Delhi’s rich culinary history right to your doorstep.

Food: 5/5 Karim's is renowned for its lip-smacking Mughlai dishes, and this location does not disappoint. The kebabs are juicy, tender, and full of flavour, while the biryanis are fragrant and perfectly spiced. The mutton, especially the mutton korma, is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, with rich, aromatic gravy that perfectly complements the meat. The tandoori roti and naan are freshly baked and make for the perfect accompaniment to any dish. Each bite brings you closer to the rich, savoury essence of Delhi’s famed culinary heritage.
